TIL that the Aztecs had mandatory education for children of all classes and genders (although the schools and curriculum differed for nobility and commoners as well as boys and girls).

I've been fascinated to learn recently about how many of the native tribes in the U.S. were women-oriented (e.g. only women can own the land, etc...). It seems to be a relatively common theme, though obviously not the case across tribes.
