The boy, who died after less than 24 hours at Trails Carolina, couldn’t breathe in the tent where he was placed to sleep, according to an autopsy report.
Even before I was an adult and learned how terrible these places are whenever they'd show up on some daytime tv show as a solution to a kid in trouble with the law or “headed down a bad path”, it was plane as day they were just abuse centers. My parents are far from perfect but there’s no way either of them would’ve sent any of us to one regardless of what we were doing.
And I’ve worked in them. Trauma causing to both clients/ patients and staff (if they care). So much waste, fraud, and abuse. Just keeps happening.
I am truly sorry.
I know parents didn't know how bad these places were years ago, and the people running them put on a good show, but anyone still willing to put their kid in one after they've been pretty thoroughly exposed should lose all of their children. This shit is sick.
There are no tests to be a parent. The overlap between those who would send their kids to these camps and those who are too stupid/ignorant to know what goes on there is basically a circle.
