Pineapple by itself on Pizza isn’t very good - too sweet and bland. The original popularity was for the combination with ham: salty and sweet

If it’s Hawaiian, shouldn’t that be Spam and pineapple? I’m generally not a fan of Spam, but I may have to try that combo sometime.

If it's actual Hawaiians making the pizza for themselves, maybe. But for most people in the US a Hawaiian pizza is ham and pineapple. I've even seen them for sale in Hawaii.
