The roundtable hosted by the vice president will be the administration's first public event on the issue since President Joe Biden talked about it in his State of the Union speech.
WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris will hold the administration's first public event on marijuana reform this week after President Joe Biden addressed the issue as one of his priorities in last week's State of the Union address.
Is... am I going crazy or are people somehow not aware that the USAG, who serves at the pleasure of POTUS (Kamala's "boss" you could say), has the absolute authority, granted by congress, to reschedule drugs? Like literally the AG can just do that. Also the DoJ (also headed by POTUS) can choose to simply not enforce all federal level cannabis related laws. This isn't legalization, but it would be a step towards it. Once it's descheduled (or, likely, rescheduled although it shouldn't be scheduled at all) Biden could ask/demand Congress act and pass a full legislation law with no additional bullshit attached.
But just to be super clear, he can absolutely make changes unilaterally, right now, and at any second of the past 3 years+. So, Biden is choosing to keep weed schedule I despite claiming otherwise.
Democracy is when you have bureaucratic processes, though. If we went ahead and rescheduled weed without the approval of Congress, the FDA, the DEA, the House Ethics Committee, the Parliamentarian, the lobbyist horde, and the softline Republicans, we’d be no better than the russkies smh
