What's the word for the aural version of visualising?
Like, when you can hear something in your mind? Is there a word for this?

5 0 ReplyThank you! I wonder why the word isn't commonly used?
2 0 ReplyReading more about audiation I'm not sure it's the right word. It seems to be specifically about music, whereas I'm thinking more broadly. e.g. A word that conveys the same meaning as "imagine" or "picture" or "visualise".
2 0 ReplyI did think you meant music specifically because 'imagine' does already encompass what you are describing.
2 0 ReplyBut doesn't "imagine" specifically relate to imagery? It seems like we don't have a word that relates only to sound.
2 0 ReplyI think visualization is video-only imagination, audiation is sound-only imagination and not having any constraints imagination is just free form.
I certainly don't think that 'imagination' is soundless, if you asked me to imagine Disney World the sounds would be included in my mental recreation.
that's my take anyway
