While only a minor voting bloc, Muslims say endorsements shows their anger over bipartisan support for Israel could sway the election
"After extensive consultation, discussion, and deliberation, the American Muslim 2024 Election Task Force has decided to encourage American Muslims to vote for any presidential candidate of their choosing who supports a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a US arms embargo on the Israeli government, such as candidates Dr Jill Stein, Dr Cornel West or Chase Oliver," read the statement, obtained by Middle East Eye.
The statement was written by the American Muslim 2024 Election Task Force, an umbrella group formed this year that consists of a number of prominent Muslim organisations including the political arms of Americans for Justice in Palestine (AJP), Cair, and the US Council of Muslim Organizations.
"We cannot endorse Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy because of her refusal to even consider imposing the arms embargo on the Israeli government required by US laws and her failure to promise any other changes whatsoever to President Biden's failed policy of steadfast financial, diplomatic and military support for Israel's genocide in Gaza," the statement read.
Ah yes. BoTh SIDes are completely the same. You're not even slightly offended by calls to "Finish them" from the republicans? Written on an Israeli bomb?
Harris: Literally supports the ongoing genocide and promises that she will keep arming the genocider, but says that she supports the victims (while doing nothing to support them
Trump: Voices explicit support for Israel's ongoing genocide, the one Biden is bankrolling and Harris swears up and down she will support
Liberals pretending to care about human life: "Can't you see the substantial practical difference here?"
Oh, have you officially inducted me into being a secret Republican now? Please, keep displaying your crankery, it makes supporters of democrats look as deranged as they are.
I don't care which neoliberal party wins one specific presidential election. I don't think on alarmist timelines where every successive election is The Most Important Election of Our Lifetime and carries a totalizing importance that makes all the rest of the future a footnote. What I care more about are the substantive elements of party platforms and how those platforms change, and if one of them can change at all, it's the Democrats.
Putting pressure on her. If she wants to win, she needs to pivot on Palestine. If she chooses not to, she is choosing for Trump to win rather than for Palestine to stop being genocided. It is her job to get votes if democracy actually exists in this country, not the job of the people to vote for her.
This does have the very real potential consequence of Trump winning, neither I nor anyone else here as hesitated to say that. However, Trump does not represent a totalizing threat like I described in my last comment. He toys with fascist rhetoric, but he is in no way a serious fascist the way someone like Ron DeSantis or Tom Cotton is. My interest is in creating a serious left opposition prior to them being the Republican frontrunners, because this "wait until next election, now wait until next election" is just a stalling tactic to prevent the left from making any progress with the Democrats move further and further right, taking up old Republican policies like Trump's old immigration policy.
Linkerbaan: admits to being a trump-supporting republican masquerading as a leftwinger
davidagain: points this out
GarbageSA2: nooooo!!!!
davidagain: yes
GarbageSA2: but I agree with linkerbaan on everything!
davidagain: oh drat I thought you were leftwing and was trying to pursuade you, but I see you're a republican. I wasted my time.
GarbageSA2: but I'm not republican
davidagain: sigh. so who should win the election?
GarbageSA2: I just need to push Kamala a little bit left
davidagain: sigh: might this have anything to do with dissuading left leaning folks from voting for the official presidential candidate with the most openly pro-worker policies I can remember and letting the republicans win the election?
GarbageSA2: absolutely not, but the republicans winning and dismantling democracy, potentially bringing in a permanent rightwing imperialist dictatorship would be absolutely fine, whereas voting for Harris would cause all manner of long term bad outcomes. Trump isn't one of the nasty republicans, he's really quite OK and nothing to worry about. Cuddly, even.
davidagain: you don't think that's just a teensy bit republican?
GarbageSA2: You're literally stupid and mentally deranged. I don't want to make fun of you, but you need to see a doctor, you're so stupid.
"Leftists" swallowing the most rightwing propaganda shit imaginable and advocating actions likely to bring about yet another imperialist dictatorship: "mmm tasty. Take that, libs"
It's an imperialist semi-democratic republic. Up until Jan 6th it had a long run of peaceful transfer of power. It's not a dictatorship yet. Trump promises to make it one. I didn't think any of that would be unknown to you?
If Trump has the legal ability to make it a dictatorship, then it always was, and the rest was kabuki theatre. If he has the illegal means of making it a dictatorship, then he has that power regardless of how the election turns out.
How do you feel about the war in Ukraine? Is that not material reality?
Again, what on Earth are you asking? War is always tragic, yes, and war is happening because of Matetial Conditions, not random emotions or vibes. What are you getting at?
You asked my feelings, ie my emotions. My feelings are that it's tragic.
Now you are asking for analysis, ie whose fault it is and what should be done.
Whose "fault" is it?
The cause of the war, ie the reason why it is happening, stems from NATO as it was formed as an anti-USSR coalition of Imperialist powers. After the dissolution of the USSR, Russia was plundered by western Capitalists. The Russian Federation tried to join NATO, but was denied, so it threw off the Western Imperialists via an increase in far-right Nationalist interests.
NATO continued to expand despite Russia warning repeatedly against it, and now Russia is trying to forcibly demilitarize Ukraine completely, compounded by Ukranian shelling of Donetsk and Luhansk, breakaway regions in Ukranian territory of ethnic Russians.
What should happen to end it?
Peace talks should be had between Russia and Ukraine. They need to examine the reality of the forces at play, and try to come to a resolution quickly to prevent more loss of life.
