Monero
- Since DAI is currently being destroyed
Does anyone know an unfreezable stablecoin that is the least at risk of becomming another TerraLuna? I love Monero but its too volatile to keep 100% of my life savings in an unfreezable stablecoin is CRUCIAL. This is such horrible news. Fuck Rune Christiansen for this shit!!

Is Capital Flight into Monero Inevitable? W/ Cryptocomicon (MT 311)
TODAY'S 🎙SHOW: Douglas Tuman catches up with Cryptocomicon, a software developer who first appeared on Monero Talk in 2022.
The conversation revolves around Bitcoin and its scaling challenges, the emergence of Monero, and the impacts of these developments on the existing financial system. Hear about how Monero serves as a decentralized, private, and fungible alternative to traditional finance, facilitating peer-to-peer transactions without intermediaries.
They also explore the idea of capital flight into Monero as a means of wealth preservation amidst coming financial turmoil and government crackdowns.

- Haveno Reto: Update to v1.0.5 has been released
First step:
BACK UP your haveno wallet seedphrase
Afterwards you can install the update by running the installers from this page (click on the most recent workflow run and scroll down) again or compile it yourself via the repo. Unlike last time, there is no need to wipe any data beforehand.
You can make a manual backup by copying your haveno-reto app directory somewhere safe. You should be able to find it here:
-Linux: ~/.local/share/Haveno-reto/
-macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Haveno-reto/
-Windows: ~\AppData\Roaming\Haveno-reto\
Changes:
- Update Tor by @preland
- Fix the backup function.
- Fix incorrect translations in withdraw screen.
- Fix incorrect amounts and error in order statistics view.
- Deduplicate trade history view.
- Reset state if main wallet is swapped.
- Remove excessive warnings in main wallet polling.
- tim p2p trading .onion
I can't vouch for it, but I have some listings up on tim to try it out. The dev is responsive. Don't want to post the link here but I have a simplex group if anyone wants to discuss, message me.

- Vending for monero trading
Hello fellow Monero users,
Before LocalMonero had shut down, I was an active vendor in selling Monero for fiat to help onramp many people. Now that it is gone, I was wondering if are there any good alternatives for selling Monero.
Thanks!

- Tutorial: Haveno DEX Face-to-Face Fiat to Monero transactions
In this tutorial I cover how to do a Fiat to Monero trade from the brand new (and long awaited!) Haveno Decentralised Exchange, using the Face-to-Face (F2F) payment method.
using the Haveno Reto Network, feel free to drop in some feedback if you think i can improve that tutorial :) https://blog.nihilism.network/servers/haveno-client-f2f/index.html
- Haveno Reto: Big Update 1.0.4
The network is live and we have already seen some successful trades!
We have just updated to Haveno version 1.0.4 and this includes some changes to the default application folder so we ask you to please
BACK UP your haveno wallet seedphrase
afterwards uninstall Haveno and clear your Haveno app directory located at:
-Linux: ~/.local/share/Haveno/
-macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Haveno/
-Windows: ~\AppData\Roaming\Haveno\
Afterwards you can install Haveno again via the installers on this page (click on the most recent workflow run and scroll down) or compile it yourself via the repo.
This wipes existing offers and trade history. Impact on users should be minimal since this happened before many trades occurred. We don't expect this to happen again in the future.
- There are currently multiple Haveno networks
At least 2 separate Haveno networks have launched as of today. One is called Reto and the other is called HardenedSteel. Those are the only ones I'm aware of right now, and things are happening pretty fast.
The haveno software was designed with the assumption that only a single network would be operated. People could fork it and run their own networks, but they wouldn't interact directly at all. But it looks to me as of this moment this is not how it is going to play out.
The client has the network info hard coded. So to use more than one, you need two copies of the client. This means that for most people they have to pick one. And, users might not understand this, just google "haveno" and pull the first git repo they see. This has significant, fast moving and quickly ossifying network effects with big repercussions.
We need to be very vigilant right now, as we are about to witness the very swift rise of a major power broker in our community. We don't want to start using a Haveno network run by scammers or authoritarians. Each network is it's arbitrators, and soon, the merchants on each one.
I think it's probably a good idea to figure out a way to connect to multiple networks, and to show listings with details about which network/arbitrator set a user is trusting when taking up a listing.
I'm cautiously optimistic, Monero has gotten rid of powerful people without a hitch before. But it is a bigger community now and that will be much harder to do. If we are vigilant during this time and we get through this successfully I think we become unbeatable, but the road directly ahead of us is treacherous, the next few days are going to move very fast.
- Haveno Reto is (mostly) live!
In the last couple of hours we have laid out the groundwork for the very first live instance of Haveno called Reto.
We have set up multiple seednodes and have trusted arbitrators.
We expect to be able to provide simple instructions on how to join Reto within the next 24 hours, after which we will hopefully see the first trades happen!

See you soon on Reto!
- Haveno Reto is LIVE
The easiest way to get going is with the pre-build installers found when on this page (click on the most recent workflow run and scroll down).
Alternatively you can clone the repo here.
Reto has a total trade fee of 0.6% (0.1% taker, 0.5% maker) which goes to arbitrators in it's entirety, there is no direct network fee.
Join the Reto SimpleX Group to stay up-to-date!
Note:
If you previously installed Haveno, first clear your Haveno app directory to reset things, located at:
-Linux: ~/.local/share/Haveno/
-macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Haveno/
-Windows: ~\AppData\Roaming\Haveno\
- Small update about Sigmanero.org -- no fees
Hello,
For background please check these posts: https://monero.town/post/2748829 https://monero.town/post/2818104 https://monero.town/post/2983582
Now we decided to remove fees in bets to see if it helps increasing adoption.
So far the biggest challenge has been for users to coordinate among themselves to create bets and the respective automatic multsig-wallet generation.
We changed the time window from 6 hours before event start to 1 hour. We saw some more bets taking place as a result, but because we have so few users right now, chances of bet offers being spotted and accepted by other users have been low.
On the bright side we see that the typical odds being offered tend to be 10 to 15% better that what you typically find in sports betting websites. That should not be a huge surprise since there is no "house" taking a huge spread in each bet, so all the bets tend to be fair bets. One more benefit of disintermediation.
We have also added a donation url for anyone that would like to support.
Costs so far are low but we are not Wikipedia, so any small tip helps :)

Decentralized P2P exchange built on Monero and Tor - haveno-dex/haveno
It looks like some plans changed at the 11th hour. People on r/monero were saying that in the current climate, the seed nodes would be shut down and the Haveno Council members arrested.
So instead, it looks like the devs are just releasing the software, and there are to be multiple competing instances of Haveno. Anybody can create a Haveno mainnet, they are responsible for finding hosting, appointing arbitrators, setting maker/taker fees, and staying anonymous. The seed nodes are hidden behind Tor hidden services. If one instance gets shut down, several more can immediately start up. The Haveno and Monero developers avoid being operators or taking fees, which makes it more difficult to lawfare them.

Hello Monero Town,
I wanted to thank you for all the feedback you gave us when we initially proposed our project to you. We went back to the drawing board and reworked a few things. Notably, as you can see, a new website, and more communications. We’re still working on the design, but it’s getting there.
We also integrated another payment method with a friendly ecosystem, but we still are, and will always be, preferring Monero to be used. We stand by privacy.
If you would be so kind to have a look and let us know your thoughts, if you feel like you’d use the VPN service, why/why not, and any tips on improving our project would be greatly appreciated.

- Bitcoin cash adopts Dynamic Block Size
It seems that Monero's Dynamic Block Size technology ( https://localmonero.co/knowledge/dynamic-block-size ). It's called Adjustable Blocksize Limit Algorithm ( https://odysee.com/@BitcoinCashPodcast:2/ABLA_Explainer:2 ) and works on a slightly different algorithm, but it's the same essential technology. The reason it's good news is that it shows that Monero was on the right track (the blocksize wars were pointless) and the competing algorithm allows for both blockchains to test out and optimise future versions of the Dynamic Block Size technology.

AgoraDesk/LocalMonero is shutting down 😞
Their app is fully open source and is a slick app written in Flutter.
Upvote this request on their github if you show interest in AgoraDesk/LocalMonero in releasing all of their source code for the back end as well. It is a long shot but if AgoraDesk/LocalMonero is going to shutdown, maybe they will release their source code to allow someone else to launch a new P2P trading platform that is a fork of AgoraDesk/LocalMonero and can do so with less work.
- An alternative Monero CLI
If you are anything like me, you much prefer a good CLI over clicking around in a GUI.
Now, with Monero it's never "fire up, issue transaction, exit".
Catching up on a week's worth of blocks can mean a long wait - especially if there are anonymity networks between you and the node.
If you decide to cope by leaving the CLI running, you find your tx-notes gone after a reboot. Less recent versions would even loose your sync level. Uff.
You could make it a habit to follow your
set_tx_note
up with asave
, but that's not ideal.XMRPC
To tackle the issue for myself, I've started to write XMRPC, a POSIX-compliant shell script that allows you to interact with
monero-wallet-rpc
.This way you can have the RPC continuously syncing in the background and interact when necessary.
In fact, XMRPC takes care of launching the RPC and also creates a wallet if you happen to be starting from scratch.
The tool is aggressive in that it doesn't require user confirmations. If you tell it to
transfer
, it will try to do just that - with whatever fee or delay the official Monero client suggests at the given moment. It can be launched interactively as seen in the image or as "one-shot", where only the command passed as argument is executed (e.g.
./xmrpc.sh balance
).Support for labelling transactions has yet to be added, but some parts of XMRPC have already been powering the OpenAlias-service XMR.ID successfully for a while.
You can check out this first version, tagged 0.1.0-beta, at https://xmr.zone/sxmo-onfire/xmrpc.
- Blockchain Integrity Act was just proposed in the US Congress
I only had time to read it once but here are some interesting points:
- This would put a 2-year moratorium on mixers.
- It interestingly classifies 'Privacy Coins' in a different category than mixers.
- States there are 'legitimate uses' for mixers
- Would have the Secretary of the Treasury prepare a report that includes information on "The capacity of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, and Federal and State law enforcement agencies to track, prevent the transfer of, freeze, and confiscate funds that have been processed through digital asset mixers, privacy coins, and other anonymity-enhancing technologies"
Full proposal available here: https://casten.house.gov/imo/media/doc/blockchain_integrity_act.pdf
- Review of the XMR.ID stagenet test
The test for improved XMR ID sign-ups has concluded on stagenet and the form is now active for mainnet-registrations of "real" XMR ID's at https://xmr.id.
With this, the parts of the sign-up that do not require human interaction got a boost - while nothing has changed for active XMR ID's. The qualities of those are the same - regardless of when and how they were registered.
For those interested in the test's findings, here's a report for transparency.
If you'd rather be spared the details, feel free to head over to !xmrid@monero.town instead, where I publish tips and announce software aimed at making your Monero-life easier.

Sign-up Test Report
Three major issues were encountered and taken care of:
DNS outage
Our provider for the xmrid.com (secondary) domain experienced a partial service outage. For a couple of hours the DNS wouldn't return any responses to queries.
Our internal monitoring reported the error at around 11 p.m. local time. Even though the primary domain xmr.id was unaffected, such issues are particularly stressful, as their resolution depends on a third party.
After resolution, the provider explained:
> "It was an issue with some domain updates that got triggered by adding records."
Spam detection
Some major email providers categorize messages from
@xmr.id
as spam, preventing further sign-up instructions from reaching the user. There is the drawback of the new, form-based approach: Since you no longer message us first, your hoster doesn't know that our response is desired email.
At the time, the best way to handle such a situation is to send us an email or message on one of the other channels mentioned in the description box at c/XMRID.
Emoji support
A user tested the form with an emoji username - thereby reminding us that this "edge case" hadn't been automated by the time.
Adding emoji support demanded most of the resources since the test. It is now working with support for both, Unicode and Punycode submissions and as an added (internal) bonus it also led to establish a more efficient method for automated testing.
---
Onward
I have decided to leave the stagenet form active for the time being, so that developers and curious users have a playground for testing OpenAliases in Monero. Note that I will clean up names every once in a while.
So, if you want to try an emoji just enter a heart 🧡, an animal 🦅, a ninja 🥷🏿, some flag 🏳️, your favorite ᚱune or a simple (anti-)smiley 😡 into the username field when filling out the form :)
Independent of the topic of registrations, there's an integrators guide around the corner. There are certain things that wallet devs can do to further secure XMR-ID use. Oh, and the guide will be accompanied by a tool for simplified Monero transactions that fans of "suckless" software are bound to love ...
Finally, a big thanks to all the testers who participated!
---
(Note that none of the stagenet restrictions apply to "real" XMR ID's from https://xmr.id.)

- Is something like RoboSats possible on Monero?
Just wondering, is somethink like RoboSats possible in Monero (Robonero?). The source code is open source (https://github.com/RoboSats/robosats/blob/main/federation.md) so it should be possible to make Monero compatible, just like Bisq was made compatible through Haveno.
I never used LocalMonero because it seemed a bit intimidating, but RoboSats seems friendlier and the Tor by default and per trade anonymous robot feature seems more privacy preserving than LocalMonero. It also has a Telegraph plugin. Liquidity would be an issue, but there's no reason it has to rebuild the wheel. Simply provide a Haveno or BasicSwapDEX or Serai backend and expose their liquidity. Eventually, the Monero to Lightning code that was recently published could be integrated, so in theory the Bisq network could also be integrated for trades.
There's been little incentive to port Robosats to Monero until now, but since LocalMonero is going, and BasicSwapDEX has stated they want a website front end, this is a good opportunity to use a technology that's already open sourced, distributed, and been proven to work. And since its starting off after Haveno/BasicSwapDEX/Serai it can rely on the existing ecosystem rather than build its own from scratch.
