Kansas City
- Perseids meteor shower tonight
Anyone have any tips on good places to view this outside of the metro area? I live in Olathe and have tried the area around Hillsdale Lake before which was alright, but still had quite a bit of glow in the horizon.
- Food recs: The best food and drinks in Kansas City’s Midtown neighborhoodswww.kcur.org Food recs: The best food and drinks in Kansas City’s Midtown neighborhoods
Midtown is home to many of Kansas City’s best-known restaurants and bars, but it has its fair share of hidden treasures to offer, including cool coffee shops, neighborhood dives and family businesses.
- A guide to Kansas City's best trivia nights for every day of the weekwww.kcur.org A guide to Kansas City's best trivia nights for every day of the week
Question: How many bars and restaurants host weekly trivia competitions across the Kansas City metro? KCUR did some digging to bring you the answer.
There's a couple missing on this list, one I'd recommend is International Tap House - Crossroads. It's free and the winning team/s get free beer and other items.
- I just drove through western Kansas on my way to colorado.... What the Fuck is with all the trump stuff?
It’s hard to pin an exact number, but throughout western Kansas’s ~400 mi slog to Colorado, I was forced to view semi trailers with trump’s visage printed on the side, hilariously corny White Jesus signs, and Anti-Abortion signs approximately every ten miles.
I found it so disheartening, knowing that someone went through the effort of painting a semi trailer with Trump’s face on it and planting it right next to the interstate.
What does this accomplish? Who’s vote is being swayed by this garish tribute?
I have seen endless discussions online about Trump fans being culty, but this (apart from the coal rollers with flags) is the first time I’ve seen this type of undying loyalty in the wild.
The Jesus and anti-abortion signs are painful, but nowhere near as painful as these Trump shrines.
I am interested in the opinions of anybody, regardless of political affiliation. What do you think of this?
Also, I’m sorry I didn’t get a picture. I feel like the guy that claims he saw a UFO but has nothing to show for it. If anyone is driving through Kansas on their way to Colorado or vice Versa, PLEASE try and snag a picture of these Jesus signs and Trump trailers, so that people can properly contextualize this post.

- The Home Improvement Hour
If you like me are pining for radio programs we used to have, check this out. Dick Ray Plumbing is a trash company today, but once upon a time when he was still alive, Dick had a really great radio program on KMBZ. This guy was very smart. It's a damn shame what happened to his company. Skip the crap commercial videos and go straight to "The Home Improvement Hour" videos.

- How's Everyone Holding up after the Storm on July 14?
Just curious how people are doing after that crazy storm that passed through the KC area on Friday afternoon.
I'm still without power in Waldo 48+ hrs after the event. While I avoided any property damage or injuries, I do have neighbors that had trees crashing down on their houses. Luckily they seem to have come out otherwise uninjured. I saw two houses behind McGonigle's/Fareway Market on 79th and Ward Parkway where very large trees fell on the houses and smashed vehicles.
How are you all doing? Still without power? Braving the heat or found refuge elsewhere? Receive any storm-related damage?

I just thought it would be cool to put this out there. The Satellites featured several local skaters from Fountain City Roller Derby: Tiff (a former Team USA skater), Mel Malice, Aneeda Hurtcha, Annie Maul, and Queen of Hurts. As if that wasn't cool enough, Olympic Gold Medalist Erin Jackson was also skating for the Satellites.
Pretty. Effing. Rad.

- Any artists/photographers interested in providing a community icon and/or banner image?
If anyone wants your work featured in the banner and/or the icon, feel free to comment here with your work.
It looks like Lemmy community icons display at 120x120 px and banners display at 736x230 px, but you can upload larger images than that. So whatever you submit, try to keep a 1:1 aspect ratio for the icon and 16:5 for the banner. If something ends up needing resized, I can deal with that part.
Original content from members of this community only, please. If you want credited in the sidebar, also drop your preferred @ in with your submission.
I'll give this thread a while to gather submissions before making any changes and if there are multiple submissions, I will use the most upvoted. If there are no submissions after a while, I may end up using some of my own photography.
