- How to do nuclear power with only the first four sciences?
I set up a nuclear reactor after automating the first four sciences. But even though I researched everything I could up to that point, there is seemingly no way to set it up in a sustainable way. Both U-238 and spent fuel cells are piling up.
Naturally, the spent fuel cells are so little that they are less of a problem, but the U-238 requires a lot of steel chests to store.
It seems like without automating further sciences, I am unable to solve the U-238 problem. Is there any other way out, or do I need to automate more sciences before actually using nuclear?

- Is it possible to set up a filter inserter to pick up logistics requests?
I am building a train base with many subfactories where each has some train inputs and some train outputs, and is otherwise independent of the rest of the factory (except for power of course).
Now whenever I build a new subfactory, I need a heap of items: belts, assembly machines, inserters, power poles, walls, turrets, etc. At the moment, I carry them in myself and put them into a logistics storage chest for the construction robots to pick up. But I have been thinking if I could make a construction train that delivers missing items.
The setup I have in mind is as follows: a train contains all the necessary items for construction. It drives into a new outpost where it is emptied out by filter inserters which take out exactly the missing logistics requests made by the construction robots. That is, they only take out the kinds of items that are needed, and only the amount that is needed.
Is this somehow possible in the base game as of today?

- TIL a simple trick to prevent power outages in the early game
I used to run out of coal for my furnaces from time to time in the early game of my playthroughs. But recently I realized how to alleviate that: the siren.
The siren can be connected to a belt with a single green or red cable, and this is all that is needed. Take a siren, and connect it to a belt that takes coal to the furnaces. Then set up the belt to continuously send the item counts, and the siren to go off whenever there is less than four coal on the belt. Set the siren to global, and you will always be notified early when coal runs low in the furnaces.

TLDR: Please help me build a smelting array that doesn't get jammed with single pieces of stone / iron plates in the furnaces.
I'm playing a ribbon world and I've designed an industrial smelter, where a train full of ores pulls in, everything is smelted, then the same train leaves with all the finished products.
The problem is that furnaces get jammed with single stones or iron plates when I'm trying to make stone bricks or steel. I need all furnaces to empty completely so that they are ready for the next train which may hold different materials.
I can read the incoming material from the train (and there will never be mixed materials on a single train) and set the stack size accordingly, but the stack size behaviour isn't exact - an inserter will grab only one item if only one item is available rather than waiting for a full stack. Maybe there's a mod to change this behaviour?

With a group of friends, we started a vanilla world. At the point we're at now, we've launched 1000+ rockets, have hundreds of bots doing their work, train stops that activate and deactivate when necessary, full solar panel powered and artillery outposts that make sure no biter nest exists within the boundary of our pollution cloud.
Which brings us to the point that we feel we got everything out of this run that we can.... And wonder what now? What do you think is the next step for a challenge that doesn't make it so complicated that people stop having fun?
