Infection corrals devices running AOSP-based firmware into a botnet.
Researchers still don’t know the cause of a recently discovered malware infection affecting almost 1.3 million streaming devices running an open source version of Android in almost 200 countries.
Security firm Doctor Web reported Thursday that malware named Android.Vo1d has backdoored the Android-based boxes by putting malicious components in their system storage area, where they can be updated with additional malware at any time by command-and-control servers. Google representatives said the infected devices are running operating systems based on the Android Open Source Project, a version overseen by Google but distinct from Android TV, a proprietary version restricted to licensed device makers.
- Change the launcher
Hi to all! I have a TCL TV with android TV. A very low budget TV and I'm looking to change the launcher, but I've read that it's practically impossible. Any recommendation?
- Projectivy Launcher stopping BBC iPlayer working.
Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix? Thanks.
- Why is my chromecast trying to access other devices in my network?
I was trying to debug an issue I have connecting to a NAS, so I was checking the logs of UFW and found out there are a lot of connections being blocked from my chromecast HD (AndroidTV) on different ports via the local IP.
Sometimes I use jellyfin, but that's over tailscale, so there shouldn't be any traffic over local IP, just over tailscale's IP. But shouldn't have traffic right now since I wasn't using it and didn't have tailscale on.
The ports seem random, just sometimes they are tried two times back to back, but afterwards another random port is tried to be accessed.
After seeing this I enabled UFW in my daily machine and the same type of logs showed up.
So, do you guys know what could be happening here? Why is chromecast trying to access random ports on devices in the same network?
- Automatically launch f launcher after sleep
Does anyone know if there's a way to launch f launcher instead of the shitty Google home screen when the unit resumes from sleep? I essentially want to make it where I never ever see the Google home screen ever

- What apps do you sideload on your TV?
Personally, so far I've only added SmartTube, but curios of anyone has any additional sideloaded apps to recommend?
- Airplay on Chromecast with Google TV through an app
I have a Chromecast with Google TV, and I want to cast content to it from an iPhone. However, the iPhone app with the media only supports AirPlay. There is also no app available for the chromecast by the media provider.
Is there a good app for streaming using Airplay to my chromecast? (Something like AirConnect) I would like if the app doesn't have ads, and the app being open source is always good for me. (AirConnect doesn't work with the app using Airplay, I'm just using it as an example.)

Hi, I've been using this app since I bought Mi TV QLED 55" earlier this year. This is like Revanced but for Android TVs. It blocks ads and has some additional features. Hope you like it.
- Missing thumbnails
Help! I'm not sure if requests for help are allowed. If not, I apologise and please let me know where to ask this. Since a day or two, my Google TV is missing about 90% of the preview thumbnails. Only the "continue watching" section and the YouTube links is still showing them. Deleting various caches didn't solve it and I have no idea what to do next. Preferably I don't want to factory reset due to various settings and logins I not sure I'm able to restore. Also I should mention that I side-loaded SmartTube and about the same time the issue started occurring. Not sure if related though. Help would be much appreciated.

What is your hardware upgrade wish list if Google does release a new Google TV 4K?
- Where should I start?
My uncle recently gave me an old Minix Neo X8-H Plus. It has been upgraded from the stock Android KitKat up to Lollipop, and it has been rooted. I have connected a USB DVD drive, but I haven't tested it yet.
I had Kodi on a RPi for a while, but I am otherwise completely new to this sort of thing.
I couldn't install F-Droid, so I decided to use Aptoide TV instead of Play Store.
So, what should I do with the device? Any app suggestions? Settings I should change?
- Google Assistant typing/search
On my Fire TV 4K Max, when I perform a search with the keyboard visible, Alexa will type out what I say into the search box.
If Alexa enter the wrong phrase, I can just hold the search button and say the new phrase and it will overwrite the old phrase and perform a new search.
I recently purchased a Onn 4K 2023 box and I seem to have to manually delete the previous search terms before performing a new search. Otherwise, the new search terms will just be added to the end of the old search terms.
Is there anyway to change the behaviour to more like the Fire TV voice search?

What's the best functioning music streaming app for the tv - I'm currently using vi, but are there any others? I'd prefer ones that don't need a mouse to function properly.
- A remote for the Nvidia Shield TV WITHOUT that $@%$ Netflix Button on it??
The stupid Netflix button on my "Toblerone" remote is constantly getting accidentally pushed. (Sometimes I think just walking too close to it sets it off.)
Are there aftermarket options for a remote to use with my Shield TV? I realize now how much better laid-out the remote for my old Roku was.
