Eh, don't worry too much about what "would have been". I was diagnosed at a young age and still struggled.

He clearly likes you, so if you texted back saying "sorry that was supposed to be a joke, I want to go out", he might reciprocate. But you've known each other for years and haven't met up? Doesn't really seem like you're all that interested in the first place, and he's picked up on it.

Honestly just keeping up with whatever social media is popular with young people is the best way to stay in touch with new music and pop culture.

Nah, tired advice. I was literally on a remote island for most of a year, and missed out on Harambe and clowns and whatever else happened that year. But if you have a real interest in pop culture you stay in tune. Most older people don't stay on top of it because they don't care to, which is fine it's not for everyone.

It is essentially the same thing, but that is the cultural box that we've created where it's normal to keep track of your lifespan. A Death Note style reminder has not been deemed socially acceptable.

It's objectively weird in the sense that most people don't do that.

Not really a personal attack, if that's not your take ... cool! Just pointing out the heat I've seen over protests, and the hypocrisy of complaining that leftists don't do anything. Leftists do participate in public politics, but people largely complain when we do.

There was a post with a ton of people complaining about blocking the Golden Gate Bridge. Let me guess ... you have a problem with "disruptive" (read: effective) protests.

Are the defederation campaigns the reason people call me lemmygrad? I only joined a month ago and people hate me for existing and not repeating their echo chamber.

It's honestly depressing. This is very easily the most right-wing/centrist social media site I use. I love the format of reddit, but hate the redditors. I thought Lemmy would be better but it's not. And it's not just that people disagree, they call everyone who disagrees a bot/troll/shill etc, and they freak out if you use swear words like.... it's the worst of tone-policing and performative liberalism all in one place.

I kinda want to start a ShitLemmySays lol, that was easily the best part of Reddit when they were active.
