  • I believe they only use one bot, and they all come from the same instance. I already just blocked the bot.

I don't understand the point of cross-posting from advice subs at all.

  • I get so hyperfocused that absolutely nothing else is in my brain. After a certain amount of time, if I have to get up and shift focus on something else, my brain is done for. The mental exhaustion hits me. Occasionally I feel the onset. I can definitely relate.

  • It boosts the comment because of the algorithm. I don't know if people do it knowingly when commenting "this" or "underrated comment" but it does have an effect.

  • Oh wow, that does look nice. Very reddit-style.

  • Creative writing presented as truth

  • DAE is "does anyone else."

    Examples:

"DAE get sleepy when it rains?"

"DAE throw up after drinking a handle of vodka?"

"DAE get a little turned on when TSA asks you to follow them into a private room?"

  • They're complaining that Lemmy is ugly while they're going through piracy-related websites like those aren't a 2000's era hot mess.

I love how Lemmy looks because it's like old reddit. After only ever using RiF, the official app is visually awful. Their own app lags while scrolling because there's so much shit. Forums aren't supposed to be pretty, they're supposed to be practical.

  • This community is text based. Communities like c/pics are image based. OP wants communities that are focused on discussion rather than sharing images.

  • YWBTA

I think lower quality, true posts would be much more valuable to L. We don't come here to read creative writing. I'd much rather read a post about a stupid, passive aggressive dispute between two neighbors where OP can get real advice about their real situation rather than read rage bait.

  • More people are distracted by their phones on the toilet than in the shower

  • Which app is that? I also have long hair that is annoying to wash. Videos might actually be helpful.

  • They might become interested once they have a platform that targets them. I know it's a little different from people who jumped on to MySpace or early Facebook because we started with text posts, not really pictures. It's still true that younger people love to post their thoughts or opinions thinking that others care as much as they do.

It could also be a good tool for "celebrities" to directly interact with their followers. Instagram's interface isn't really set up for that.

  • Do websites even make much from collecting data? There are so many trackers and only so many people. Ads are obvious, but it's clear that relying on those two isn't enough for revenue.

I'm guessing that websites with a large userbase will start charging for access to their sites. It might look like the NYT, where you get your 3 free articles, sign in for more, then you're required to pay. Free tiers won't be a reasonable compromise like they are now.

Will people stay and pay, or will they migrate? Most likely the former, especially for the older demo. Moving to the fediverse has been confusing enough for many of us who actually committed to learning about it. An average Twitter user wouldn't put in this much effort.

  • Can he buy Pintrest next?

  • I could see this actually gaining popularity from their Instagram user base. Twitter doesn't attract younger people or influencers. It'll be like discovering Facebook for gen z, where they can also share text posts. Maybe that'll attract the people who left Twitter for turning alt-right. If it gets big enough, public figures could even leave Twitter. I'd be shocked if that happened, but a gal can hope.

This isn't something I have any interest and I hate meta as much as anyone else here, but I'm interested in seeing how it will play out. If we can't escape capitalism, at least we can watch it as a social experiment.

  • I have a cheap bidet that I got on Amazon for maybe $30. I love it. It gets you way cleaner compared to just wiping because the water can flush you out a bit. The downside is that you have to dry yourself off (unless you get a drying model) and there's more cleaning involved because of the bidet and the powerwashed poop particles that don't fall straight down into the bowl.

Getting a bidet + squatty potty changed my life, especially as someone with a very poor and inconsistent diet.

  • I think your reaction is the correct one. Mine is to run away and hide in the most dramatic way possible like I'm a 4 year old, which has worked so far.

I'd like some advice about what to do if they've posted up on a door or the gas pump that you need to put up so you can leave.

  • Twitter isn't allowing posts to be viewed if you're not signed in, which is now resulting in Google removing Twitter links from search results. That alone is doing more harm than any other stupid moves by Musk. Him implementing caps on user activity doesn't need any further elaboration.

Reddit is going to have some dead links that might deter a small percentage of potential new users who find them through a Google search. I think we'll get a better picture of how reddit will move forward after they replace mods and reopen large subreddits.

  • I love behind the scenes videos like this. It makes you realize how much careful work and thought goes into these films, when the product seems so simple. It looks easy to do because they put so much effort into it. The emphasis on making it a movie about the family and not just about superheroes vs supervillans isn't something I ever thought about because they did it so well. Who actually thinks about how puberty would affect a superhero???
