  • Yes but wouldn't you like to sign up for an outlook account? No? Sorry that wasn't a question, this full screen window has no X and you will comply.

... unless you do the thing that skips it, but man that's an awful experience.

  • Hard to say but probably not. For instance I mention Hmong because they were political refugees from Laos in the 70s to various parts of the US as refugees, many of which didn't move away after a generation. Only a few hundred thousand but they may make up a sizable amount of Asian in Minnesota and Wisconsin, not getting much say in where.

If you move by choice, as many modern immigrants do, usually you end up where there's work, like California (and H1Bs and colleges get a ton of well educated East and South Asians). It was enough to make Irvine blue, which was astonishing!

And older generations? Probably on average close to where they originally landed (most people don't move more than 50miles from home) but of anyone I'd see them most likely to move to like minded places, but work usually influences that more. Keep in mind, anything past 4th generation is pretty dang assimilated.

  • To be fair, it's not a very well defined group. It's heavily split by country of origin and economic status. Imagine differences between Indian men with traditional values, Hmong refugees settled in the midwest generations ago, 6th generation Chinese in Chinatown enclaves, or 1st generation Chinese recent grads from Beijing starting up in Tech, etc..

Other racial groups also lose out on interesting distinctions (e.g. Cubans are super red) but tend to still be fairly homogeneous in political views historically.

  • Not sure how I feel here. I hate overzealous legal departments and AI services, although admittedly Midjourney seems less scummy than some alternatives (like open AI). At least they're not attacking someone who pirated Frozen 2 or made a fan game or something, like certain legal departments would.

  • I hadn't even thought about it until you brought it up. Kind of disappointed in people jumping on this like flies on shit but like... it's 2025, so bigger things to be upset about.

In any case, apples and oranges. And PSA, if you need a Switch 2, grab em on the rebound. There'll be used ones, likely hackable in 6 months and none of that goes to Nintendo. Don't forget what their legal department has done in the past few years.

  • I know this is all about awkwardness but what if you get the Lemmy Be Wholesome ending where they made a new friend who also likes the niche film you do?

Not that I recommend it. Lol

  • Piracy and emulation is inevitable, although we'll see if it's months or years. I'm boycotting Nintendo over their legal practices, but that doesn't mean I don't want to play their games. It'll be extra juicy to be able to emulate it eventually, although buying used is technically an option too.

  • I've noticed a pattern of deception lately. This comment came after a comment saying he'd never call for such a thing so that edits can focus on that part and edit out the tar and feather. They do that with Trump all the time, too, like with the Epstein files comment. You'll get the full comment if you look for it, but you know damn well the GoP propaganda is going to select which part of the contradicting message to show.

  • I mentioned elsewhere but it's not atypical to run curfews when there's unrest after hours. In most situations it's more akin to an advisory warning (especially with so many exemptions). Given reports of looting, that's typical policy and 25 arrests in a city of more than 10,000,000 is not 'mass'.

Given how much the Mayor is getting stepped on by the feds, try not conflate this with them being on the same side as the fascists who made this a mess to begin with.
