Netris is an open-source cloud gaming platform with Stadia-like features using Proton
  • I could honestly see the blockchain being used to coordinate game ownership between gaming platforms.

I am far from crypto advocate, I think it is a waste of time and resources, but having a blockchain of who owns what games would be great.

Then you could pick the platform you want to download the game from and get the experience you want

  • China's BYD nears deal to supply London's electric double decker buses
  • Ok, so what you are saying is that the bus service should be replaced by rail:

Predictable - No random traffic, vastly imporves reliabillity of the system.

Disaster resistant - Less traffic in the system means less impact of disasters.

Time tested - rail has been used for longer than cars/busses.

Cost effective - After a large initial investment the large capacity of the system compensates for the large cost.

Idiot proof - this does not exist, but rail gets close with a lot of added control and safety systems to improve safety and reliabillity.

  • Would you support a mandatory retirement age of 75 for US House, US Senate & US Supreme Court Justices and if not why?
  • "After many decades of civil service, it is time for the state to give back to our hard working representatives. Therefore they will be retired in januray of the year following their 65th birthday"

"January 6th has for the last few years been a reminder of an embarrassing moment in our history, well no longer! January 6th shall henceforth be known as a day of celebration, celebrating not only long and faithfull service but also new talents, skills and hope for the furue! Join us, as we once again rejuvinate our government to keep our nation strong and dependable!"

  • China's BYD nears deal to supply London's electric double decker buses
  • That's fair, I jist watched a WTYPpod episode yesterday when they ranted about how cities remove the trolley wires with a future promise to get on battery busses, an increadibly dumb idea. So I was already a bit riled up.

  • Trump flattened for talking about executing Biden before gun owners
  • Based on his record, a few articles snd forum posts explaining what should happen, all of which will be ignored by the legal system, there won't even be a baliff giving Mr. Trump a heavy slap, which seems apropriate with how Mr. Trump behaves.

  • China's BYD nears deal to supply London's electric double decker buses
  • Busses should not be battery powered. They run on fixed routes, put some wire up and make a trolly bus network, it lowers the demand for exotic materials for batteries, while also lowering the energy use of moving the bus as it removes the heavy batteries.

  • Gender bias in open source: Pull request acceptance of women versus men
  • Yeah, that is my take as well, at first I thought it was completely useless just like the old Facebook posts with users posting a legaliese sounding text on their profile trying to reclaim rights that they signed away when joining facebook, but here it is possible that they are running their own instance so there is no unified EULA, which gives the license thing a bit more credibillity.

But as you say, bots will just ignore the links, and no single person would stand a chance against big AI with their legal teams, and even if they won the AI would still have been trained on their data, and they would get a pittance at most.

  • Who agrees that the Internet and social media are toxic?
  • This is too simple, groups of people radicalizing themselves is a very well known phenomenom, it has existed since humans started forming groups.

A good example are the terrorist groups during the cold war, Baader-Meinhof, Japanese Red Army and similar.

The groups may start as a group to work towards a new political system through peaceful means, then someone starts an informal competition about who is the "best" and more "pure" member, starting to subtly put other member's down for not doing as much as they are.

Then it becomes a feedback loop, and soon you have a group that condems their own initial goals as counter revolutionary, and constantly moving the goalposts.

The algorithm itself doesn't introduce this behaviour, but turbo chargers it by making people self radicalize mich faster by showing them an endless stream of people telling them how to be even "better" and even more "pure".

  • Gender bias in open source: Pull request acceptance of women versus men
  • Looking at their comment history they seem to allways include that link to the CC license page in some attempt to prevent the comments from being used with AI.

I have no idea of if that is actually a thing or just a fad, but that was the link.

  • A cool guide on knowing cameras
  • Yep, I started my camera journey with a Canon EOS 400D, a good starter camera for the time, but limited, it was a DSLR camera, and at the time it was great, full clarity in the view finder, but almost ten years later I bought a Lumix GX80, an EVIL camera, and the viewfinder was just amazing with how many tools you could have to help you, I loved the digital level feature, it helped me a lot!

And now with my Lumix S5, another EVIL camera, the EVF is better, and I have better lenses, seriously the Lumix S5 24-105 f4 is just fantastic allround, the Sigma Contemporary 100-400mm is awesome as a budget super telezoom lens and the standard Lumix S 50mm f1.8 is just a fantastic portrait lens.

All weather sealed and relatively cheap.

The Lumix S5 is a brilliant full frame budget camera, it is still a camera though, so it is still expensive, but less expensive than most other fullframe cameras sold today.

I got it last year, but am already planning on extending my camera collection with a Sony A7 IV, for it's much better AF, when I have enough money to spend on one and some good lenses, I will. No rush though, I am in no hurry and my S5 is fantastic in the meantime

  • A cool guide on knowing cameras
  • Interesting, I did some light googling earlier, but after some more googling now it seems as if both Canon and Nikon ended production of DSLRs around 2020, they are all focusing on EVIL (Electric Viewfinder, Interchagable Lens) cameras now.

  • Engine Bursts Into Flames on Boeing Plane With 468 Aboard
  • I would refuse any flight on a new Boeing plane (post 2019), but the 747 is a very reliable plane, and I would have zero problems with flying one today even after this event.

    This is not Boeing's fault.

  • How could the US solve local public transport in their huge suburban neighbourhoods?

I mean in those areas where it just identical houses along a road in huge blocks.

How would you realisyicly solve it?

What actor is the modern day Schwartzenegger?

In the 80s/90s Arnold was a huge movie star, playing huge men in both serious and comedy roles.

I guess that what I am asking is; what actor today could occupy the same kind of decade defining place as Arnold did in the 80s/90s?

They don't have to be a massive bodybuilder, but they should be the first name that anyone would think of when someone say "2010s/2020s".

Remember me from yesterday, I was the guy claiming to have a huge singleplayer creative map....

Some told me "pics or it didn't happen", so I posted videos from the world, that got some attention, and here I am, posting the entire 3GB world to the public for anyone to download and try:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1woXAhxZ4RoJAWJf7XbUbxfG1ahAgaLZV/view?usp=sharing

Some may recognize it from a map posted to /r/minecraft years ago, that was also me.

The first few weeks/months I set the difficulty to peaceful survival, but after hgaving lost my bed and dying only to respawn far away from the base, I recovered a shadow copy backup and cheated into creative mode, a few years later after being annoyed, I removed bats and clouds from the world so I could focus on building stuff.

I never used any mods to enable me building faster or easier, apart from the above mentioned cheats this is vanilla minecraft, every block built in the last decade has been placed manually, every hole dug has been dug either manually or with TNT, often rigged to be synced with redstone if blasting horizontal.

To see what I probably think is the most impressing stuff, find Plattform 7 at the huge trainstation and follow the tracks.

BTW, the brick church is ginormous, go downstairs, and have a notebook to draw a map handy, it is a bizzare librarynth down there, and even I can't remember the way through.

    The main runway is mined.

I have a singleplayer creative map that I have played on since 2014....

During several years it was the main game I played, and I played it for hours every day.

I have recovered the map from backups when it developed save errors, I have recovered the map from a hard drive that was about to crash, and I have done some normal migrations between computers.

Most of the time spent in the map was spent in creative mode, all of the time spent has been spent playing without mods.

    The map has it all:

    1. Weird towers, many weird towers.
    2. Railroads, many railroads, soo many railroads, I am not kidding, there is a huge ammount of railroads, it is frankly ridiculous how many railroads I have built.
    3. Weird religious buildings, from classic chruches, to many, many strange halls dedicated to religious or cult iconography.
    4. A huge, confusing, underground maze of libraries.
    5. Huge geometrical structures that just keeps going.
    6. A lot of odd glass and light sculptures.
    7. Hugely long but super narrow buildings that just goes on and on and on.

So my question is, if anyone would like to get a copy of this world and see what my mind has built over almost a decade.

I mean the physical design of the gun, not the projectile or effect.

[OC] About half a year ago, I took this photo on my way home from work with my newly bought Lumix S5, it is one of my favourite photos.

I love the bokeh, and the unfocused people, it perfectly captures the vibe of going home after work after the sun has set.
