  • When I bought this laptop the cheap thin clients came with eMMC storage. Keyboard and display are convenient for installations, backups and occasionally other uses. A decent size UPS is more than $100, uses power even when it's in standby and still doesn't last anywhere near the 7+ hours of the laptop battery when the power fails. I'm away for 3-4 weeks at a time and have had repeated power failures completely corrupt my server SSD during that time. Not everyone can fix a server problem within a few hours.

The laptop cost significantly less than a thin client, plus a gpu, plus a UPS and came with that nice keyboard and display, and a warranty. It only uses about 6-8 watts the majority of the time, important to me for a device that's always on.

Different people have different use cases than you do. Some of us even know what works best for us.

  • Craig Fuller thought he was voting for business savvy, not economic shock therapy.

Does he know anything at all about the felon who has left a long trail of failed businesses and can bankrupt a casino three casinos? Trump is doing pretty much exactly what he said he'd do and any CEO that doesn't know that deserves to be unemployed.

  • This is really disappointing. My HA Supervised install was running fine last year on an old laptop and unsupported distro. In order to move to a supported installation of HA I purchased a very efficient fanless laptop specifically sized to run Debian 12 and HA Supervised. This install has been rock solid and the opposite of "Hacky" (despite Howtogeek's clickbait title), and I expected it to easily last 5+ years. It's been 8 months.

Of course Home Assistant developers need to sometimes EOL specific configurations and dropping 32bit hardware support was overdue (the last 32 bit Raspberry Pi was released over 10 years ago), but 6 months is an absurdly short amount of notice to give users of supported configurations on supported hardware that they're going to be forced to migrate to something else.

  • Impaired driving is also solvable. On-demand breathalyzers, smartphone saliva tests, and eye-tracking sensors are all tools that already exist to stop drunk and high drivers before they even start the ignition. Uber is already testing real-time driver sobriety verification. Why aren’t carmakers racing to put similar tech in every new vehicle?

There's no fucking way people will buy those cars is why. I rarely drink and will never buy a car that required a saliva test or blowing into a tube before starting. Like it or not, any car that includes that equipment would be DOA and a financial disaster for the car manufacturer.

  • Bad design goes both ways. I have a couple of small kitchen appliances (coffee machine & toaster oven) and their beeps are impossible to hear if there's the slightest bit of background noise. It makes using them a PITA. And then there's my microwave which could wake the dead.

  • A few months ago a Lemmy user stridently demanded sources for a comment I posted. Since he literally could have found the information with less effort by a Google search, I refused to do it for him. Other Lemmy users argued that I should be this dope's reference librarian, and another guy actually did the Google search for him and posted the results.

People are astoundingly lazy and even many Lemmy users want to be spoon-fed.

  • Missouri Republicans have repeatedly warned party activists and elected officials that Democrats were threatening American democracy because their party is growing more comfortable with socialism.

Hawley needs to stop begging for socialist handouts and instead tell his constituents to quit their whining and pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

  • Translated by Google:

The Tate brothers will be extradited to the UK after they are tried in Romania, the British government said, according to The Telegraph, which quotes Security Minister Dan Jarvis.

The announcement comes after Andrew Tate gave a post, the day after the presidential elections, in which he said he was leaving Romania and hinted that he was doing it because of the fact that Nicusor Dan came out as president. In fact, he even supported George Simion and even gave several posts in this regard.

In March 2024, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled that the two influencers could be sent to the UK, but decided to postpone it until the conclusion of the criminal trial in Romania. That's after the Bedfordshire police obtained an arrest warrant, in which they are charged with rape, human trafficking and setting up an organised crime group.

Andrew Tate, 38, and his brother Tristan, 36, deny all the charges.

The minister's confirmation marks a first when a British official says the Tate brothers arrive in the UK to compare to justice.

In a letter sent to McCue Jury & Partners, Minister Dan Jarvis "expressed his deepest sympathy for all the victims of these abominable crimes. We are absolutely firm in our commitment to combat sexual violence in all its forms and support survivors. These persons remain criminally investigated in Romania for human trafficking, rape, money laundering and the establishment of an organized criminal group. It is notorious that the Tate brothers were arrested at the request of the United Kingdom, which was accepted and processed by the Romanian courts, who agreed that the brothers would be handed over to the United Kingdom after the conclusion of the internal proceedings in Romania.

Matt Jury, a lawyer representing the four victims who sues Andrew Tate, said: "Finally, we have confirmation from the UK government that the Tate brothers will be handed over by Romania to be tried in the UK when their prosecution is over. But this can only happen if they are in Romania at the time. It is now essential that the Labour Party ensures that this will happen and that the victims of Andrew Tate will be done to justice. Brothers can't be allowed to slip through their fingers. While we welcome this important step, the Security Minister has not yet been able to explain why the United Kingdom did not call for the extradition of the United States or the United Arab Emirates when it had the chance.

Last month, there was talk of the possibility that the Tate brothers could be arrested and extradited from Florida days before the information that revealed she had assaulted her ex-girlfriend in Los Angeles. However, no request was made from the Ministry of the Interior.

The office of James Uthmeier, Florida's attorney general, said on March 7 that he was prepared to "go through" any official extradition request issued by British authorities.

Andrew Tate is accused of suffocating his ex-girlfriend Brianna Stern so loudly that he almost lost consciousness. It all happened at Beverly Hills Hotel on March 11. He denies the allegations.

She claims the assault took place at the time when Andrew and his brother Tristan left Romania for Florida on a private jet in February after a court order was lifted to them that restricted their travels.

  • Wow. You claim I'm lying in a post correctly identifying the bomber made less than 12 hours after the bombing and also confidently state, "The information regarding the bomber came a 12-24 hours later."

Two months on Lemmy, you know everything, have zero content submission, and think you are so amazing that you can lecture others. You are nothing but a troll.
