  • Honestly from the limited knowledge I have, Mongolians seemed to be the one of the chillest of invaders. They gave you a clear choice, let us rule you or die. And once they ruled you they allowed many freedoms that crusaders and colonizers didn't. Their tactics were brutal and I think that's why people see them as so evil.

  • The meme format doesn't really work, but the joke they're trying to make is that even though they did all these terrible things, it was never because of religion. In fact, they just didn't give a fuck in what you believed in. Genghis even allowed religious figures to be exempt from taxation.

  • Every show with a suicide now has a disclaimer with a suicide hotline at the beginning. Is there any evidence that these warnings make a positive difference?
  • Suicide comes in many different flavors. The most common in my limited experience is desperation. If you are so utterly desperate for literally anyone to listen to you, I don't see how it would hurt. Especially since there's such a positive stigma surrounding the hotline. I personally know a couple of people that the hotline helped.

  • Chaos!
  • The absolute panic when you put the keys in the ignition and the seat starts moving forward. You try to move it back before your knee slam into the dash, but the controls arent exactly where you thought

  • Borderlands' theatrical run grinds to a halt with just $31 million worldwide, which is barely enough to cover the marketing costs
  • Because the show writers are the same that wrote the game, last of us has a very strong advantage. They can't deviate from the plot and key elements because they are too invested in it. But they can change what they feel like is weaker, or wouldn't work as well in a show format. And its really noticable if you played both the game and the show. They've discussed how they already planned it to be a two season series, but they also mentioned if they have enough inspiration and they can figure out a way to make a third season that stays within the spirit of the story line, and they honestly enjoy it then they will.

With the first season being as good as it was, I have complete and utter faith in them.

  • People are crazy for bucees. It's a road trip staple. It wouldn't surprise me if the idea behind this is to get people to reroute their road trips next time just to stop at bucees.

  • Anon doesn't like reddit
  • Yeah, I've long since stopped using Google. Theres not any search engines I've found that mimic Google in its height, but many of them are better than what Google is now. Even bing.

  • Anon doesn't like reddit
  • If you read it, the mod certainly didn't beg. They just mentioned that they're still blocking bots and to not be discouraged from posting original content.

Also I find it highly doubtful that the mods of that subreddit are concerned about shareholders. Why would a mod care about money when they're not even getting paid? They most likely just care about keeping the community alive.

Not to take away the point. Which I think is something most Lemmy users have realized ages ago, reddit is so full of repost bots that it makes gallowboob look like a saint. So much in fact that after two days, not a single original post has occurred in a subreddit with a reported 17 million followers.

  • What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?
  • "Next" refers to the occurrence that follows the current. "This" means the occurrence that is present. I'm regards to days, it usually follows a week to week basis, Monday through Saturday.

If its Friday and I say "this Saturday" it's referring to the Saturday in the current week. Tomorrow. "Next Saturday" would be 8 days later.

  • What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?
  • Sound isn't dependent on whether someone hears it, but instead IF someone could hear it. IF a person was around, you would hear it. A sound wave doesn't come into being just because you happened to be around. It'll exist regardless if you are capable of hearing it or not.

  • What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?
  • Thats a bit of a glass heart take. I, personally, don't think animals should suffer before they're slaughtered. They should live happy lives up until then. But we're predators just like any other carnivore.

The only difference is that we have stronger emotions and the ability to consider the consequences of our actions as well as empathy for other beings.

But if you like meat, you're not being a baby. If anything it's the opposite. You care less about the animals than the meat it comes from. And I don't think that's wrong. That's just evolution.

We're such strong predators, that the majority of humans will never even kill their prey. We cage animals and slaughter them to feed our masses. And as long as we do that ethically (which we're not. I'll admit that), I don't think it's a bad thing, it's nature.

You wouldn't deny a lion it's prey, so why berate fellow humans for the same thing? Instead the focus should be on ethical and sustainable ranching and farming.

Perhaps a little too on the nose, but Hemingway is a dead poet.
