$40,000,000+ Part II: Red flags

  • Righteous! ✊

  • …hence the post title.

  • Thank you for that.

    "Discreet messaging," my ass.

  • I'm assuming (ass = u + me) you're not just blindly grumbling and speaking of the article here…

The costs for such a conversion would surely be high, he and others said. But the costs may not be prohibitive if the project taps the many financial incentives for development that are now available in Michigan. […] Poris noted how the original RenCen towers will soon turn 50 years old, an age that would open them to qualifying for historical preservation tax credits.

“You are seeing buildings, as recent as the ‘70s, being designated historic, and then you can utilize the historic tax credits to renovate them," he said. […] Even though the federal historical tax credit program discourages big modifications to a building's interior, special exceptions can be granted.

    [all emphasis mine -- r2 ]

Yeah, I kinda bristled at that as well. OTOH, even though it is prime riverfront property, who's going to touch without some kind of tax incentive?

  • For those who give a rat's ass: I'm looking at this post from both Voyager and Jerboa and both apps completely yet uniquely mangle the citation's footnotes, which render correctly in a web browser.

If you're so interested, you can view source and follow the links from there.

-- your friendly neighborhood OP, r2

  • Gosh, I hadn't thought of that. Much simpler than, say, the GOP seeing Trump for what he really is and running Haley or DeSantis or any another candidate who isn't tied up in a 88-count "witchhunt".

Watch out for those vapor trails, pal.

  • It's actually a great machine. It's rendered less great by its inability to be upgraded.

  • Call-Me-Argumentative-If-You-Must Dept.:

    • In defense of Metz's subsequently-named "The Halo," well, the snide will be snidely. The giant ring recalls nothing of an anus except to all who have their heads firmly entrenched in one, usually their own.
    • On the contrary, while "The Halo" still more "creative" and dynamic than Detroit's plastic letters robbed repurposed from disused motels, it's something that Project Mayhem would have sabotaged.
  • Actually, yes. This town is plastered with great art, from the sanctioned to the "otherwise." We have the number one art museum^1 in this nation of cowboys! And yet this all-weather[^2] design-by-committee waste of resources sits along I-94.

Seriously…could they not have picked something more…dynamic? Something less pedestrian?

Re: "half-assed": maybe you're letting your moderating of !detroitlions@midwest.social color your thinking…? ducks It's a joke! I KID! I KID!!!

EDIT: I meant nothing against your moderating…just that fumble-at-the-10y-line team of yours! 🤣

    [^2]: remains to be seen… 🤔
