  • Good to have the gutless kowtowing reported on.

I'm honestly a little surprised at how quickly the big tech corps have not just cosied-up to Trump and Elon, but really done their best to pledge fealty and become part of the inner circle. When the winds change in the future I very much doubt liberals and leftists will ever forget that these big 'Silicon valley liberals' largely turned out to be a deception. The trust will be gone forever.

  • Whenever I see these 'repost' complaints it feels exactly like grandpa replying to meme posts on Facebook, "I've already seen this one".

Just kinda second-hand embarrassing that they think anyone needs to know about that.

  • Agree on all points. Pretty much the same arc as Reagan - he was an idiot, but people knew who he was from his acting days, and he knew how to talk to a crowd - and his simple demeanor played well with blue collar workers and rural America. Naturally his neocon shit took the world on an awful turn for the worse, opening the door to Trump.

P.s. sorry, it's my turn to be the 'Reagans fault' person. Someone else's turn next thread

  • You compare voting to the laws of physics. They're not even remotely similar. Politics is choice.

A more apt comparison would be a little kid crying that he wants a chocolate ice cream, his mum says he should order that, then to be funny/petulant/assertive he orders strawberry - and gets mad at his mum when the server gives him strawberry. "It was your job to make me choose what I wanted!", he wails.

Edit: my phone can't spell 'comparison'

  • The problem I have with this I put the PC to sleep overnight every night - and like clockwork, Windows wakes it back up sometime overnight to do.. Something.

I've been diagnosing the issue for years - checking wake timers, switching hardware devices permissions to wake the system off. I might fix it for a few months and then a new Windows update comes along and it's back to its usual routine of waking itself.

Looking forward to seeing if it persists with Linux when I move at the end of support period for Win10 later this year.

  • It's a rhetorical non-answer, "the 35th anniversary release was only available for a limited time because it was only available for a limited time".

There are hundreds of anniversary releases of games that are made permanently available - hence why people asked Nintendo why this one was given an artificially short availability so often that it became an FAQ question. They own the rights, they can sell it indefinitely if they want.

Eg: search Steam for 'anniversary' you'll find 600+ results.

  • I mean, not long ago on a evolutionary timescale we were hunter-gatherers, living only in small familial groups. People have changed a lot and we'll continue to, there's no reason to believe our current flaws are inescapable. That's just defeatism and apathy

  • A great outcome for this.

I gave each of the first 2 mods I contacted 24hrs to response, as I was concerned over a server-wide ban for 'PM spamming' or something. Having not heard back, I lost patience and sent PMs to entire mod team.

That got multiple positive responses back from five of the mods, a few of which commented that they couldn't see why that would warrant deletion or ban. The mod that remedied it said he'd unban me immediately and take it to the mod team to discuss why the comment was deleted, 'in case there were details they weren't aware of' (since the modlog was so bare). An hour later the comment had been undeleted too and multiple messages from mods sending apologies for the delay and hassle - so it looks like nobody saw an issue with the comment.

It was not made clear to me if it was an automod action, and it seemed like at least some of the mods can't de-obfuscate the modlog either, because they asked me if I remember who made the ban (I obviously do not know). I did ask the mod who got my issue fixed, I'll edit this comment if they have futher info. But for now I'm taking the win and getting on with using Lemmy.

Cheers all for the support and recommendations.
