  • My experience with undergrad was that most of my classmates were living away from their parents for the first time and their parents were paying for their school. So it's a situation with almost total freedom and very little responsibility. Not exactly real life experience.

Kids that I've known that were out on their own even at 16 have had a unique demeanor. Probably they could be perceived as very mature for their age, but I think there was some real trauma, as well, and mostly at that age were (just like their college-educated counterparts) busy getting established as adults with careers and shit, even if they were having to do it the hard way.

All that to say yeah, a lot of college-educated folks view it through that lens, but in general the vast majority of the time a person isn't fully cooked at 22 either way.

  • The existential crisis of not being able to go back and do things over is very real, and our situations sound very similar. All I can suggest is that the alternative to starting to live your life the way you want now is that you delay and end up missing out on present joys.

Also, parties and clubs still exist for all ages. Getting out and making friends is notoriously harder as an adult, but it's very possible still. I'd argue it's actually easier to make friends but harder to schedule time with them, but whatever.

  • No flashing, but pulsing is okay. Having been chased off a shared path by a strobing bike coming in the opposite direction, this seems like a good middle ground, where visibility is increased without being blinding to others.

  • I was joking. They made an unprovable statement, and I hoped they might try anyway. They didn't state it as a preference, they stated it as a fact, which I don't believe it is. I don't ask others to justify their preferences, but I guess you'd like me to justify my jokes. :) Fair enough, I guess. They're lousy jokes.

  • I disagree. X is a useless letter in English; it's always copying other letters or combinations of letters. Meanwhile, there's a special rule where putting an 's' and an 'h' together makes a different sound. Why not have a single letter for that?
