Honestly i think its just the endgame now for America. Trump gave tons of money to build up a massive secret police (ICE) and while they may come "only" for foreign criminals right now, they will be used against Americans in the future. It simular to Hitler and how he went after jews in the beginning.

Also the entire thing with Trump about bringing as much of production within their own borders, feels like he plans for the country to become more and more isolated from other countries in the future.

I think its a good time to look at options to get out of the United States if you can.

I think we are wasting our lives to a certain degree. As kids, we expected more from life than sitting in front of a computer to feed the family. And sitting at a computer is seen as one of the "good" jobs.

Yeah I have given up on the system but you are right, its not much to gain from that attitude. I just cant change it for myself. Too much experience watching these guys.

Possibly, but they are also not getting this kind of publicity. American politics seems to be about being very extreme in your views, and they dont have to be true, just appear to be on the peoples side.

I thought he was a nominee? Article says that anyway. But still, there is zero chance that any of these guys will make any changes that are helping the ordinary people and hurts billionaries. Its a system where they have money and power and most of the citizens do not.

People are desperate for hope, and thats why his strategy is working. It is simular to Trumps own strategy also. They all come out and act as if they represent the ordinary people, and everyone buys it every time.

All these guys just say what the public wants to hear before election.

Behind the scenes, this guy wants to be a billionarie, and the way there is to make a political career, saying whatever is popular with the voters.

There is no risk of being shot because all this guy is doing is trying to get popular, just like every other political guy before him. He wont be able to get rid of billionaries even if he wanted to.

Its an auto-renewing cert so it "always" works, but in this case there was a syntax error in the web server config, causing it to fail to actually reload the new cert. Will see what we can do to make that not happen again!

We will never shut it down just like that... It would be incredibly rude and insensitive towards you guys and we just dont operate that way as people.

This place is supposed to be very different from big tech platforms, and that means we see users as people to start with.

It seems the mentality of the United States rulership have shifted back to the dark ages.

I wonder if accusing people of being witches is next.

I was having computer science class and I remember seeing the news... Felt so unreal to see something like that in America. Went home, watched news for the entire day.

Then I read a lot about 9/11 the following years. I think it changed the perception about America in a lot of people.

I agree, but people dont like to hear that.

There is always the possibility that we are wrong also.

Having government confirm age of users is the beginning of having to use a real id to use the internet. Thats the wet dream of governments and big tech, but its a total nightmare for privacy and discussing things without your real name being known.

Just watch linkedin and see how discussions are extreamly limited there, since people dont want to discuss sensitive things in front of others using their real name.

I also dont watch news and havent for a decade. Its not like im missing something important, since I get to hear about anything actually important anyway. It would be hard to miss things like covid where we actually need to take action. Even here on Lemmy, people seem to be discussing a lot of current events in the news, so... Dont need to watch TV news.
