  • Yeah this thread ended up being more hostile to regular Americans than I intended but US culture and US global hegemony are the things that attract and amplify the shitty people from around the world.

USA is the final boss of capitalist imperialism and the people have completely lost control over the reins. It's now a matter of when they actually say enough is enough, be it now or after Fascism runs its course and hurts millions of others around the world as well.

  • I couldn't tell from a quick read of the article (and couldn't find an English version of the study) but it didn't seem like it offered democracy and authoritarianism as the only options.

As (an older person) who leans anarchist and has lived through many problems with democracy I agree with the concerns of these young people. However, my alternative isn't authoritarian rule.

Yes people can dispute the practicality of anarchism, or grossly misunderstand it, I'd disagree with them, but point being there are good if not idealistic alternatives to democracy.

  • Early Reddit was more thoughtful and the communities were smaller, Lemmy theoretically could be the same, but a big problem IMO is that all social media has blended together and people are sharing stuff they see on Twitter and Facebook on every other platform.

Social media hadn't been so homogenized during old Reddit, and it was a lot less acceptable to cross pollinate between social media platforms.

The old Internet is just dead, in general. You would have to ban links like this that are just "other social media" on Lemmy. Otherwise, there aren't really any walls between the communities at all.

  • Canadians are, generally speaking, taking plenty of action against Trump and the United States. Travel and purchase boycotts for instance.

We're not the only victims, no, but you have to clean up your own mess. When given the choice to follow you, Canadians recently chose not to.

Instead of getting butthurt at internet comments go out into the streets

  • These fascist right wing bastards are being emboldened (and amplified by American conservative funding) everywhere but Canada realizes it's dependent on immigration enough that even our right wing parties are more hesitant to go full racist so the lowest of the low here don't have a Trump to get all enthusiastic about.

Plus now that Trump is picking a fight they don't feel as comfortable speaking up here with their shitty views.

  • If the United States occupied most of Ontario's territory and displaced Canadians to do so, then it continued to exert control over the rest of Canada and gradually demolished Canadian homes to build American homes, then it started allowing American civilians to terrorize, murder, and loot Canadian towns, and so on.... Would you say Canadians need to just chill out and enthusiastically support the US?

  • A peaceful Israel needs to exist before any moral nation can tolerate it. The one we have is one that expands illegal settlements in Palestinian territory and starts wars of aggression and imperial expansion throughout the region.

No, I don't want that Israel to prosper, I want it to understand fear.
