What vegetables and fruits do you wish were commonly available in the US?
  • Persimmons. I know they're available at least in the bay area because I had them when I lived there briefly, but have never found them in my regular home in the pacific northwest. I also don't remember them as a kid growing up in Tennessee.

  • Do you like olives?
  • No, but my oldest son(6) loves them. There used to be an olives stand at the farmer's market near us and we surprised them by bringing a toddler who wanted olives. We let him try a bunch of different kinds. I will eat olives if I'm drunk and someone gives me a slice of pizza that has them, but otherwise they're a no for me.

  • Do you consider Lemmy/Reddit (and similar platforms) to be social media?
  • I feel like it's similar to social media, but serves a different purpose at least in my use of it. With social media sites like Facebook and Instagram I'm mostly interacting with people I know in real life. To me it seems closer to Youtube, because for both of those it connects me more to larger cultural or artistic things, rather than what's going on with my friends.

  • [Serious] Do you know of any processed snack foods with some vitamins?
  • Thank you! Yes, ARFID has been on my radar since learning one of my friends has it and I'm curious if my son has it as well. I've definitely been guilty of not hiding my excitement when he tries a new food, so that's a helpful note.

  • What looks easy peasy lemon squeezy but is actually difficult difficult lemon difficult?
  • Parenting. Before I had kids I was often judgmental of parents, but now I've realized all the things I didn't take into account and all the things you just don't have control over. In my case, I was not expecting to be a single parent, there was the pandemic, and I did not factor in how impactful the lack of sleep and autonomy would be.

  • [Serious] Do you know of any processed snack foods with some vitamins?

Trying to keep my very picky eater 3yo healthy as we're (hopefully) expanding his diet. Right now the only foods I can get him to actually eat are McDonald's, a specific brand of yogurt, banana bread, some crackers and some bars. Refuses any beverage besides water. (He's likely on the spectrum.)
