  • They'll Probably face a fine, a fraction of their quarterly profit. Most other consumer facing industries might suffer a long term/permanent loss in trust/image. But their customers are other companies especially management. My own extremely cynical view is, they'll come out being viewed as "going the extra mile for the client" even if it means being unethical.

When you're selling to psychopaths, showing them you're just the same is good for business.

  • Not OP, but I think he (along with other billionaire's) got rich off of tax breaks and subsidies that were tax funded. No person can earn his kind of wealth on their own and without some sort of exploitation, usually of poor people. Paying ~4% is understandably less than bare minimum.

  • I think a lot of memes are missing the main point of how it was caught, the exploit caused a spike in CPU usage for a network call. That made no sense to the guy Messiah who found/reported it. FOSS software's strength is the number of critical eyes looking over each line of code you put out!

  • Since they upgraded their glibc requirements for remote servers from 2.26 to 2.28, I can't use it to work on important legacy servers. So I am stuck with a version 6 months old. I wish I could've used the newer version

  • I remember reading that the production of the movie is spun off to a separate new company, which is in practical terms the studio itself. This new company then "leases" the rights to the studio for pennies. The studio then sells stakes of the movie earnings to investors to create funding for the production. Many local/state governments encourage the arts by giving tax credits and/or funding if a movie is shot in their state. If the movie tanks the dummy company declares bankruptcy and no one gets paid, except the studio.

Perhaps WB realized they can skip the release entirely and make back their money with tax credits by shelving the movie, artists + technicians + tax payers can eat shit.

I don't know if this is true since I saw this on the internet. If anyone knowledgeable is reading this, Please correct me !

  • You forget the enterprise usage for Windows. Even Incremental gain is huge. With x86 emulation it definitely is a huge threat for apple.

Though I am happy Apple did it first. Competition is great for consumers. We'd never have gotten a decent ARM PC if Apple didn't rattle Microsoft's cage.

  • Because it already knows everything personal about you from your google account, chrome browser, search history, emails & files, and even your keyboard. Gemini wants to guess, because it's more exciting that way! 🤩 /s

  • To give them benefit of the doubt, maybe they meant that they were trusted to be factual. "We owned the news" could mean most people thought "I trust the WSJ so if they say so it must be true". But now in the age of misinformation, no one can be trusted.

But all this was said at Davos, the literal comic con for billionaire assholes. Its more likely they were talking about a news monopoly, facts be damned.

Dammit! I wish there were a news owner who could tell me what to think! /s
