  • If politicians are doing what the people want, populism would never be a thing.

Populism works to get politicians elected because it is nothing more than politicians telling the people what the people want to hear.

Populism has nothing to do with actually doing what is in the best interests of the people, it's about making the people believe that their interests are going to be served.

  • If a car must exist it might as well be electric,

That's an important bit of nuance.

Even if every province and city were to go all-in on prioritizing public transit over new car-focused infrastructure, we are decades away from transit being available at a scale to everyone who needs it. EVs are a practical interim solution.

And there will always be practical reasons for individual vehicles (contractors, service vehicles, delivery vehicles, rural places, etc) where public transit is not realistic, and those vehicles really need to move to EV.

  • Bus... like Greyhound?

That hasn't existed west of Ontario for... maybe a decade? I can't remember, it's been so long.

Or do you mean VIA rail, which has only 3 trains a week in this half of the country?

It's hard to embrace something that barely exists (or that stopped existing a very long time ago).

  • Considering what is known, Trumps proposal seems to be free trade for the US, tariffs for the "Privilege" of getting foreign products on US shelves, and no willingness to negotiate for anything less.

That is my take on it as well.

He is well known to take a "zero sum game" approach to pretty much every situation. The only way he can envision him winning is to make others lose.

The concept of mutually beneficial agreements seems like something that he cannot understand or accept.

  • 2/3 of wildfires ARE started by humans, but not necessarily arson

But the distinction is a very important one.

The conspiracy nut jobs are claiming that the fires are intentionally set for some nefarious purpose, and that is a blatant lie.

We need to stay vigilant at pushing back against these conspiratorial lies.

  • He should be making weekly statements to Canadians,

    Saying what exactly?

"We are still attempting to negotiate with the Trump administration, but with the changing situation the negotiations are at a delicate point and I cannot risk divulging any further details that might further complicate already challenging discussions".

  • doing everything in secret, no updates.

Do you think it would be beneficial for him to put out a press release saying what aces he has up his sleeve, what the plan is to counter Trump's next move, or any other parts of the negotiations?

Do you think the Americans won't love to learn those things?

  • holding Canada's cards close and not telling his bluffs.

That's what the "just tell us what you're doing in the negotiations" crowd seems to miss.

It would be colossally stupid to put out a press release that tells the other players what cards you're holding, and what your planned strategy is.
