  • I don't like the "you actually don't own anything" model and try to buy physical media from independent stores.

A few that I frequent (besides local ones) are Powell's for books and The Rewind for movies. Discogs for music. Also, for audiobooks, checkout libro.fm. You can select an indie bookstore and they'll get part of each sale.

Or if you want to be frugal, checkout your local library. Besides tons of books, manga, movies, etc. a lot now have streaming services as part of your library membership.

  • That should be fine, just might need to reapply over time as it wears off. They actually say that no finish may be best for things like cutting boards, so could even get away with just leaving it as is.

I've also used Tried & True which is a blend of beeswax and linseed oil.

  • PIC

    Jump
  • Parika is probably my favorite anime movie (perhaps even movie in general). Incredibly visually stunning and cerebral.

Every Frame a Painting has a great video about the director Satoshi Kon's unique style and influence on other filmmakers. Made me appreciate the editing and imagery even more.

  • I'm also holding out for a compact flagship (with a headphone jack and SD card slot) but things have been pretty bleak. Settled on the Sony Xperia 5 line. While it's not small, it's narrow enough to be used with one hand and checks all the other boxes.

Other models I've looked at were the Asus Zenfone 10, Jelly Max, and Galaxy.

  • Installed an All American RO from US Water Syatems. Been pretty happy with it, no issues in 2 years and their how-to videos and customer support is excellent if you want to install it yourself. Even bought one for my parents house. The 6 stage version includes a remineralization step, they call it Livation.

  • A lot of times I'll get gaps when cutting a side too short. Now I'll try sneak up on the line with a few cuts and dry fit it in between.

A stop block on a miter saw or miter gauge can help get repeated cut lengths better than a pencil line.

The hand tool alternative is a plane and shooting board. Might need a dedicated 45 deg jig or donkey's ear depending on the size of your pieces.

Somewhat unrelated, but you can get a cable protector to conceal the power cord a bit.
