  • Where I'm from, we were massively talking about it in the 80s when I was a kid. It promply stopped by the end of the 90s. Then all of sudden, we don't hear much about it.

It's so fucked up to be told all your life that your are insane to believe in climate change, and then about 40 years later, most people talk about it as if it was a given.

We should not be anxious about climate change, we should be furious.

  • I worry some safe spaces for specific mental illnesses will take quite some time to emerge in here since they are very "niche" communities.

I think it can be very important for some people to engage with people who share the same struggles. I would totally understand if some people decide to keep using reddit for that sole purpose.

  • I love it on my ipad, but I really wish I could save images.

  • The only thing I like about apple is their apple pen for making illustrations on procreate. For me, nothing is comparable.

Everything else is a nightmare though. Even if the apple pen is awesome, I just can't recommend anyone to buy such an expensive device considering you can't really repair it and cannot do anything apple doesn't want you to.

  • "The cloud".

In the end "the cloud" is just someone else's hard drive. Call me old fashioned, but I'll keep my data on my own hard drives.

  • My HDD full of those games and an another one as a backup both say otherwise. We are legion of preservers.

  • For those who don't know, while previous tensions regarding the recent pension protests are most likely not helping the current situation, these riots are about a cop murdering a 17 years old in the Paris suburb of Nanterre.

Mainstream media pushed the narrative that it was the fault of the parents if the teenager was a thug and tried to present the kid as a dangerous individual (while he had some issues with the law, his lawyer insisted he didn't have a criminal record). The cop in question claimed the teen tried to ram him with his car and shot him out of self defense. Multiple videos of the event emerged and the police officer's claim turned out to be a complete lie (he even threatened to put a bullet in his head if he didn't comply for not having his license or something like that). Apparently, this is the kind of story that happens quite a lot in these parts of France, but now that videos of it emerged it caused the current outrage.

Now the government is claiming the riots are caused by social medias and video games and two police unions wrote a press release declaring war on these "hordes sauvages" (savages hordes) and "nuisibles" (harmful/detrimental) referring to the people of Naterre by all means necessary. (Some politicians from the oppositions are quite disturbed by it).

I'm not French, but that's what I got from multiple reports so far, I might be missing some details.

  • A MMO mouse. All the keybinds allow me to have an incredible workflow with everything I do on my PC including browsing.

  • Pretty cool stuff, thanks!

  • I still struggle making some games work, but it's definitely close to perfection. Steam games are almost always flawless now.

Craziest thing is how bloated windows is. I dual boot and when I come back to Linux I always realize how much abuse I'm willing to take when using Windows.

  • Once again, thank you for making this small pleasant corner of the Internet possible!

  • We don't need reddit, reddit needs us. Just move on and be done with the platform. Just create new habits with Lemmy and reddit should slowly fade away from your mind. If we give alternatives some time, I'm sure great content will emerge and crazy shit like the three days no poop challenge will happen more over time.

    I am personally very optimistic.

  • I use TOR.

Oh? You are a pirate? Or maybe a journalist in an authoritarian country perhaps?

Nah, I use it to read the news.

  • I am not surprised. Currently, France's democracy is being challenged by its current government. They also tried to outlaw filming the police in 2020 (luckily the law didn't pass). Recently, they constantly used special laws to pass their laws even if they don't have majority in parliament (especially their retirement law even if 70% of the population and 90% of the workers didn't want this law to pass). They are trying to push a biometric mass surveillance law for the 2024 Olympics. The way the government has been dealing with the recent protests has been heavily criticized by Amnesty International. Police violence has been over the top (the Saint-Soline water protest was literally a war zone) and countless unlawful arrests including unjustified police custody have been done.

    It's a real shit show.

  • After years of grinding, I've reached a solid foundation in 2d fighting games.

  • I'm not using reddit again unless to lurk some info here and there if it is needed to find information I couldn't find on lemmy. I won't participate in the Reddit community anymore even if reddit is backing down. The federated philosophy is just much more alligned with my values. If anything, this whole blackout situation accelerated my innevitable switch.
