  • Tape like that, which isn’t heavy coverage, takes 1-2 hours to place. Mostly because of the time it takes to be precise and create the patterns and symmetry. Obviously the more you do it the faster you get.

Source. Am photographer and have taped people to photograph them.

  • My server is a pc I built maybe 8 years ago for YouTube streaming back when I still ran my channel. It’s running Ubuntu server 20.04, but I’m planning a rebuild soon with an upgrade to whatever is the latest lts when I actually do the rebuild. Currently hosting via Docker:

    • Portainer
    • NGINX proxy manager
    • Jellyfin
    • Navidrome
    • Kavita
    • Audiobookshelf
    • Matrix (synapse, but moving to dendrite when I rebuild)
    • Mealie
    • Baserow
    • Homepage
    • Ntfy
    • Seafile

I’d really like some kind of google docs replacement. I used to run Nextcloud and tried adding OnlyOffice Document Server probably half a dozen times and it never worked for me. Documents created wouldn’t sync, couldn’t be edited from another machine, and generally just failed at the basics of providing a server based document solution.

  • I just started scrobbling with Listenbrainz. I do it through an anonymous account, and the scrobbling comes through my self hosted music server.

I’m trying it out to see if I like the recommendations. If I do I’ll consider it a fair trade off in privacy for now.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if Rosalind Franklin inspired the author. And that’s fair. I go in waves. When I was a kid and into adulthood I read a ton of fiction. As I moved into adulthood I started reading a lot of non fiction, and for the last few years, it’s been primarily fiction again, though I’ve recently added a few biographies to my queue.

  • I just started listening to Lessons in Chemistry, and so far it’s excellent. It’s also depressing. I (a mostly cishet male), know cognitively that women have faced horrific treatment and discrimination for thousands of years. So far, the writing in Lessons in Chemistry is very good at making something I know as a fact feel very visceral.

That’s a good thing, and I hope many men read this and experience it in a similar way as I am, though I fear the sorts of men that need to experience this are not the sort of men that are likely to read this book.
