  • I'm not sure if they called it a scrutineer but I used to volunteer at elections (US) and they did the same. The counters would sit at a long table with people watching from both sides. If I remember correctly, everyone had to stay until it was done and there was a sign-in/out sheet.

I understand that there's more people voting for federal elections but it really didn't take that long. Polling closed at 7 and the results/physical ballots were delivered to city hall by 10

  • I can't say if you're technically correct as far as MLA formatting or whatever but I've been on the internet for 30 years and basically everyone puts the asterisk after the word they're correcting. I don't think I've ever seen it the way you're describing lol

  • I was indeed "barely" getting by but I'm still shocked to see 115k. I don't even make that now and I live very comfortably

Not trying to put down your work at all! I'm just very confused by the data. Are the handful of rich cities really skewing the average that much?

  • When you say 60k deficit, are you saying cost of living minus minimum wage? And is the cost of living for 1 person or a family of 4?

I ask because I know for sure that the cost of living for an individual in Illinois definitely isn't $115k unless they're in some VERY specific areas. I'd guess it'd be closer to 60-75k even in Chicago. Don't really need 100k unless you want to live in like, Lincoln Park or the gold coast

  • You're right, it would be so much better if they were happy to be there. I would much prefer knowing that all of the soldiers are excited to suppress our constitutional right to protest. WAY better than the chance of one lashing out because they're mad at their boss, right?

  • Probably not? Reading 300 pages of unfocused ranting doesn't sound like fun even if I agree with the "message"

I'd read about the rise of oligarchy in the US but that doesn't seem like what this would be

  • I see you stopped reading the article there. It gets worse...

“My plan at first was to get out excessive toxins in my body. I felt like my body is intelligent, I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made,” Lewis said. “I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way. . . . I wish I could go back. It’s important for me to admit where I went wrong with this.”

  • I personally don't think Bill Burr would be great but we were really struggling to make a list. I think he'd be an awesome contestant because he shines when he's annoyed

I had to sell my friend on Fielder but he came around. All the TMs I've seen have had their own style so I was thinking of who could bring a new spin on it. His schtick is the awkward guy but my favorite parts of the show were usually when he's the awkward, serious, and determined guy. Something about his delivery puts people on the spot in ways I haven't seen before. I don't think he'd be a great assistant because his persona is NOT self aware.

I can't think of any American comedians with that same "big guy" energy who aren't douchebags. If TJ Miller wasn't a piece of shit, I think he could pull it off

  • I've been talking to my friend about this ever since you replied because I had no good suggestions lol

Don't have a definitive answer but here's a couple that made us both say "I could see that!":

    1. Bill Burr
    2. David Spade
    3. Paul F. Thompkins
    4. Nathan Fielder

Weird list, I know. My top pick is Fielder so I'll give you the pitch:

Nathan Fielder lacks the "power" of Greg/Tom/Jeremy but he makes up for it in a different way. While Greg might intimidate you with his presence, Nathan is an expert on pushing people with shame. Sure, most contestants would win in a fist fight....but when he's in serious mode, people listen.

I specifically am thinking back to the first episode of Nathan For You when the woman accurately guessed the yogurt flavor and he doesn't back down in trying to make her admit she's eaten poop.

We also briefly discussed TM assistants and the frontrunner there is Zach Woods

  • I heard similar but with a few different things:

    • not just the commercial breaks but the episode length in general. They got a 30 minute time slot instead of 60 and with commercials that's only 22!
    • if they did it in the US, Alex would not be the assistant

I'm a fan of the people you mentioned and I know Conan got brought up a lot on the TM subreddit but I just don't see it. He's chaotic as hell and the TM is traditionally quite stoic (making the outbursts all the funnier). He'd make an INCREDIBLE contestant but his brand isn't serious enough to take Greg's place IMO

  • Yeah this title sucks, I got ragebaited until I read the article. They could take a full month off and it wouldn't even be a 1% cut.

Not that I think ANY pay should be getting cut, I just don't think this is an example of sexism. Why would getting sick while you happen to be pregnant be any different from getting sick while you're immunocompromised?

Unless you DO get compensated differently for chronic illnesses in France. If so, I take everything I said back

  • US doesn't exist. Don't tell anyone the US version exists. They never cast Lisa Lampanelli as a contestant.

Disagree about NZ, though. I love both the versions in New Zealand and Australia. Hard to beat a lot of the original but I'm following several of the comedians now
