Trump supporters call for riots and violent retribution after verdict
  • There's literally been corrupt sheriff's caught ordering military hardware like a 50cal machine gun designed to be fitted on a helicopter...

I think this is (a particularly stark example of) the core problem here. The people who are supposed to be the ones protecting the rest of us from these right wing nutjobs are, well...right wing nutjobs.

  • Making healthier choices
  • We can't even measure calories accurately, never mind predicting how much your specific body will actually absorb. Maybe we could be more accurate with vitamins and stuff, but I dunno.

  • CBC has whitewashed Israel’s crimes in Gaza. I saw it firsthand ⋆ The Breach
  • And comments like this show the damage done by such whitewashed reporting. The most documented genocide in history is happening before our eyes and Canadians "don't have a dog in this fight."

Note that 'authoritarian' tendencies only need to become visible when the people broadly turn against the ruling class. It's like Ford's "any colour you want, as long as it's black." Sounds like freedom until you start demanding a red one.

  • Intelligence chief warns Canadians that China can use TikTok to spy on them
  • I don't recall being warned away from facebook, google, etc. when it was revealed that all of the data they collect is accessible by the US government. China is supposed to be an adversary or whatever but the US has a much greater track record of meddling in affairs outside their borders...kinda feels like this is just ideology on display.

(Not a tiktok user, if it matters)

  • Evacuations with cars are a bottleneck
  • It's not just remote places that can get evacuated.

I don't live in the north, don't own a car, and don't worry about it, but if something catastrophic were to happen here, I hope there would be options for the many non-car-having people.

  • Evacuations with cars are a bottleneck
  • I almost have the proper gear for this... I'm sure I could make it work in an emergency. A good contingency idea. I think I've done about 80k in a day before, and it wasn't particularly strenuous... you can cover a lot of ground on a bike if you just keep going.
