it's not just that they're defeatists, they think (maybe rightfully) that the US provides more benefit to them than they would get if they take the hard road. This is why the decline of the empire is so important for the region. if these people think the US can no longer provide material benefit to their treachery, they will be that much more likely to actually join in on destroying the entity.

it does both, I think. from my understanding lebanese politicans who are anti-resistance can't risk coming across as supportive of the entity publicly; there would be public outcry. but this statement would make it look like hezbollah was planning on abandoning Gaza, which would hurt hezbollah's image in the public and especially among its own support base, while still not showing any outright support for "israel".

edit: I'm not saying it is impossible, but the fact he doesn't mention a ceasefire for Gaza as a prerequsite for this agreed ceasefire is very suspicious to me.
