  • Office work is the envy of every farm and trade worker

This isn't exactly true. There are, believe it or not, people who prefer to work outdoors and do heavy labor. Especially farm work. Some people aren't really suited for office work. (pun intended)

  • Yes, but you have to consider the poor CEO's and middle managers. They need to be able to strut around an office full of people and feel important. Plus there's all that office space they leased for the next 30 years at a discount that they need to fill with workers to justify the expense!!

It cruel to only consider the happiness of the slave class while ignoring the plight of the ruling class. Don't you people know that?!?!?

  • Unrealistic. No politician is going to voluntarily give up their job. Instead aim for making them quake in their boots and afraid they will lose their job in a year and a half if they don't hold Trump accountable for his constitutional violations. Make them oust Mike Johnston as Speaker and elect someone less radical at the very least.

Edit: all that is needed is for a handful of Republicans to defect from the party line and it's kowtow to Trump. Oh, and for the Democrats to stop cowering in the corner and step up to do their fucking job. Not sure which is the harder prospect.

  • Meanwhile those of us who have a copy of the silverscreen edition, that was put together by fans getting a hold of as many discarded prints of the original release as possible to digitize, have been enjoying this version for a decade or so.

Still hoping they can manage a silverscreen edition of Empire Strikes Back.

  • Anyone who thinks this wasn't the LAPD ramping things up with their gestapo tactics modeled after Trump, who most of them probably voted for, has not been paying attention for the last 50 years. The LAPD has a long long long history of this kind of behavior.

Quite frankly it boggles my mind why the entire force has not been fired and replaced by now.

  • I've been looking everywhere for somebody to explain it. Like, there are dozens of articles outlining exactly what happened. Which I don't need because I was there. I know what happened. I just have been wondering why and finally you have provided a link that actually gives me a reason.

    So, thank you kind stranger.

  • It's going to be interesting to see the reaction on the ones who approve when Trumpflation really gets going because farms can't hire enough workers to pick their fields and work their cattle and poultry mills.

Good time to plant a victory garden. You're gonna need it.

  • The problem is that it's not actually counting anything. It's simply looking for some text somewhere in its database that relates to that word and the number of R's in that word. There's no mechanism within the LLM to actually count things. It is not designed with that function. This is not general AI, this is a Generative Adversarial Network that's using its vast vast store of text to put words together that sound like they answer the question that was asked.

  • It's because the venture capitalists who are sinking BILLION$ into these things are calling it AI even though it's not and literally never will be. And unfortunately, too many people are too stupid to understand that these aren't AI but Generative Adversarial Networks or GAN's for short. Which doesn't sound as sexy and "take my money please"-ish as Artificial Intelligence or ✨AI✨ does.

These will never be HAL9000 or Jarvis or even Roku's Basilisk. The stuff needed for that kind of "intelligence" doesn't exist in these things. And the sooner people come to realize that this is all just digital snake oil the sooner we can collectively get on with our lives.
