Might not even have to change the acronym
  • Haven't ever heard it in English either, but it's very common in Polish. In Polish LED can even become a proper adjective, e.g. "światło ledowe" (LED light), with the initialism even losing capitalisation

  • What electric toothbrushes do you guys use?

I've been thinking about upgrading my electric toothbrush since my current crappy one is basically on death's door after a couple years of use. Is there like a toothbrush equivalent of a Toyota Hilux I should know about?

  • If you go into the Styles menu (either the F10 or F11 key, I forgot) you can change the font of the Default Paragraph (or something akin to that name) to the font of your choice.

I haven't used LibreOffice Writer in a while, though, so I'm not sure if that change will stay between sessions, but it should.

  • How did marking corrections with the astrisk originate?

Just a random question that popped into my head while correcting a message I sent to a friend.

Power budgeting for new PC build
  • The only RGB I have is a tiny module in my mouse's scroll wheel, and that's it. I didnt realise the mouse had that module when I bought it and I was quite irritated because of that but I've grown to actually like it.

On another note, I'm using an old keyboard that's basically at death's door because it seems like it's literally IMPOSSIBLE to find a good keyboard without RGB in it. It's insane.

  • People warn about culture shock, but nothing prepared ne for this solid toilet paper roll in Vietnam
  • You see these in Poland every now and then, just with an actual central hole. I remember seeing these in my school, we used to call it srajtaśma ("shit tape" is the best translation I can think of), and it was just as bad as you described it. It also had a very particular smell to it.

  • A wallpaper I made for my dumbphone
  • Good 'ol paint.net, for which I still have to fire up a VM, because no other Linux program can replicate the workflow. I tried many, and out of all of them Pinta and Krita were relatively close, but still far from what I was used to, before I switched operating systems. I could technically try dedicated pixel art programs, but I'm more than fine working with what I got.

  • A wallpaper I made for my dumbphone

Posting for anyone who might like it.

I needed a wallpaper for a dumbphone I bought, so I made one, using one of my photos as a reference. The original is 128x160, this one was upscaled 8x using NN sampling for clarity

Proton is transitioning towards a non-profit structure | Proton
  • I've been using proton for a few months now with a yearly Mail Plus subscription and I have yet to receive an actual spam e-mail. Your experience might be different than mine since I take precautions not to invite spam in the first place, but even then, Proton looks to be doing an excellent job

    Experiences with bloated websites?
  • Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

I've seen sites with chunkier javascript than this one, but I've never stumbled upon a site that my browser simply cannot load, hence why I made the post.

I assume that in this case all the redundant dependencies might be loading in at once and causing the browser to struggle?

  • (Possibly stupid) T440 Thinkpad upgrade idea?

I managed to bag a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 for quite cheap as a replacement to my old laptop and I've been wondering about upgrading it.

Problem is the T440 is quite hostile when it comes to upgrading, unlike the T440p. Replacing, for example, the CPU is basically impossible as it's soldered directly to the board. And so I've been thinking about something stupid a.k.a. replacing the motherboard entirely with a T440s board, which has a better CPU soldered onto it.

In theory the two boards should have the same dimensions and should be interchangeable, but does anyone know if that's actually the case? I couldn't find much about this kind of swap online, so I thought asking here would be a good idea.

    Simple Mobile Tools alternatives?

I've been wanting to diversify my set of apps for a while now, and the recent purchase of SMT by ZipoApps finally gave me the push to do so.

Right now I've replaced my gallery with Aves, my file manager with Material Files, and my voice recorder with Record You.

And that's about it. I still need a replacement for Simple Dialer and Simple SMS Messenger (Contact You doesn't support MMS and it would be really nice to have MMS support), Simple Calculator, and Simple Notes (looking specifically for an app with a dedicated widget like the one SN has).

Can anyone recommend something for the apps I'm still missing?

Can anyone recommend a very basic calendar program?

I really need to start organising things and a calendar on my PC where I could set up events would really help. No other fluff, quite literally just a program that shows me the current month and handles events, perhaps with like a notification function or something along these lines.

Given how simple this would be I'd code one myself, but I haven't got the time to do so at the moment, so I just wanted to ask if anyone's able to recommend something similar to that.
