  • I'm pretty sure I got stuck on some Samson quest in that game for like two years before I found some guide telling me what to do?

Kinda reminds me of Wild Arms 2 and a puzzle toward the end about days of the week but it was some bad Japanese translation or some shit?

Stuff like that is just killer.

Having to go through all 9999? Combinations for Star Tropics because you were too poor to buy the game with a booklet for original DRM is up there.

  • Yeah perpetual royalties are a nonsense slippery slope. People are pushing for it in all the wrong ways wanting a piece of the pie from the higher ups when in reality the way the money flows just needs to be altered.

Bridge and road crews don't get to get a penny every time someone drives over stuff.

Creation does not mean benefit in perpetuity. It means you created something. You should be paid properly for it, yes, but it doesn't mean every time someone mentions your book you get a penny from them lol.

Melancholy Elephants was a great Hugo Award short story about this very thing written in 1983. It's a great read for those who want to go in a bit blind. http://spiderrobinson.com/melancholyelephants.html

How the hell do you spoiler tag on Kbin? lol

  • You could use that argument to invalidate voting or any boycott

The difference being that there will never be enough vegans to change large-AG practices until the reasons I've stated above. There is a non-zero hit to their bottom line, sure, but Veganism will never be mainstream until healthy and tasty alternatives to meat is viable, tasty, and cheap.

The perpetual shift to healthier lifestyles through lab grown and alternative meats are an inevitability for any prospering/utopian civilization. The technology and culture to get there requires A LOT though.

  • Right. It's also the right and good thing to do and you should be commended for it. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

People who eat meat know it can be healthy and terrible for your diet. The same way any other foodstuff is. They also know you're killing animals, often in terrible conditions. If you go through life caring about everything that has ethical dilemmas though, you wouldn't be using microprocessors, any clothing that wasn't made and grown by yourself, etc. You DEFINITELY wouldn't be on the internet lol. The Good Place had a wonderful look on going through that moral extreme.

Even going the living healthier route, the bigger issue is ultra/processed foods.

Veganism equating boycotting the meat industry is great for your mental, but does a basically non-zero hit to their margins in actuality. People advocating, voting, and being vocal are what makes the small then large changes to shift the food industry paradigm to non-sentient meat options. The people smart enough to make real efforts into alternatives are doing so. Yeah, you want to participate too and feel like you're doing something, and you are, but let's not pretend it's not for your own mental benefit. Both through how you feel by advocating for animals that can't help themselves, and by not participating directly in something you don't like as well.

  • The entire stock market. Not even metaphorically, the entirety of it, is so the rich can get richer and stay that way.

Eventually economies will have to scale to a non-growth sustaining setup which renders the 'free money from nothing by sitting on vast quantities of it' obsolete. It's a setup where literally millions of people put into shit like ROTH IRAs depend on money being created from nothing due to an inability for most economies to sustain retirement unless you invest in it yourself. Those social safety nets are going to be a nightmare to figure out when that realization hits.

In that world, the little guy gets almost exactly what he puts into savings. No compound interest. No making vast quantities more for the people on top. No millions putting in a little at the bottom to get an extra 10,000, while the people on top of the pyramid make LITERAL trillions.

That, is a literal ponzi scheme. Because modern economies depend on what's essentially accounting magic to keep rich people in power there while handing down as little as possible to the masses to BARELY survive their twilight years.

Short of unlimited free energy combined with carbon sequesteration, the stock market is almost a literal direct indicator at how much pollution we've created too. It's not sustainable. The market as we know it from the last 100 years is not sustainable in the same way in the next 100. Economic growth and pollution have only recently started to taper off thankfully. Greener initiatives are even good signs for stock now. Hooray!

I'm just glad I won't be old enough to have to go through that incoming disaster lol.

  • I'm not the one being an edgy cryptobro zealot on a GreenText post am I lol?

  • The difference being you're not going to stop large agricultural practices with it.

You're going to stop them by voting, going into office yourself, or scientific advancement.

The rest is just saving your own conscience. What other people do with their bodies is none of your business.

  • I'm pretty sure the vast majority of adult meat eaters have seen multiple videos and still continue to eat meat. Very few have actionable ability to directly stop the suffering so they then stop caring. One person cutting down on red meat will never be enough until there's enough lab grown meat and/or delicious FakeMeat alternatives to satiate western society at large. We still a long ways away from that.

Until then, vote for people who want to cut down on brutal industrial practices.

  • It's okay. You'll be a better person one day.

  • Married with children, married with children...

  • Misinformation or disinformation? It sounds nit picky, but there is a huge difference.

Sounds like semantic discord when the end result has no difference.

While the process of getting somewhere is human, you don't get a pass because you spread either 'Mis/Dis-information'.

It's unfortunate that we even have to draw this arbitrary line in the sand thanks to Republican 'Alternative Facts', aka, propaganda by any other sense of the word.

  • Either everyone needs to get royalties or nobody does.

Pay your voice actors right the first time instead of paying them shit per line. Or if your video game becomes an astounding success, all 1,000 people get a slice of that 100,000,000 million it made in sales via residuals. A cool $100,000 for everyone!

Don't forget to advocate for yourself even if you have a union. Nobody ever gets paid more by saying nothing.

  • Eh if you really believe in crypto it makes no sense

Yeah, which is why it's a Ponzi scheme banking on poor people's gambling addictions lol. Plenty of others have been duped into this shit since antiquity. MLM selling bored housewives Tupperware in the 1950s as if it was going to make them rich too. Stock is even more out of your hands unless you're already multi-millionaire rich.

The stock market, crypto, all of it when treated as short term get rich schemes is no different than literal gambling.

  • I've always been stoked whenever I see my dead lol. They age appropriately usually if they died young. It's always a big hug and horns with I missed you! What's good? We share, then it's usually well I hope to see you again sometime! This was nice!

Then off I go to have more cool dreams because playing RPGs since I was a kid has all of mine be pretty fantastic vs boring/daily life stuff.

  • When you're already a millionaire but didn't want to cash out because turns out you just liked riding the gambling high rather than treat it as a job.
