  • For the sake of anonymity, I'll let it slip that I'm also in Manitoba although outside Winnipeg.

Would you be able to speak more on what it takes to be involved with a coop? Like I guess that once the building is finished and all the residents are settled, the board is more focused on budgeting and maintenance projects?

I'm a solo homeowner but I'd gladly give up the absolute control over my own decisions to have more security in a collective.

  • I'm curious to see if Build Canada Homes is going to include any kind of support for non-market or co-operative housing. I looked it up last year to see what the requirements are to secure funding from CMHC, and I found that unless you're an established developer, and/or have considerable pockets, and/or already own significant areas of empty land, it just isn't feasible to start a new housing co-op from scratch. The barrier to entry is too large.

It should be made easier for smaller co-operatives to get started with buildings under 10 units to better fit as urban infill instead of the current requirement of 32+ units which would need to get pushed to the outskirts of the city where land is cheaper and more available.

  • This is a fledgling bird. After it leaves the nest it will be some time before its flight feathers are fully grown in, so it will rely on its parents for food and protection. After a baby bird leaves the nest, it will not return.

  • In hell you have to use a TV remote while checking the password manager app on your phone to input 32 random characters, many of which are numbers and symbols that don't appear on the main keyboard, and there's no button to unhide what you've typed so you can never get it correct on the first attempt.

  • It seems hit or miss. Most of my vinyl is 180 gram, I guess because it isn't the primary means of consumption for music these days, people expect to pay a little more for better quality. But I definitely have a lot of cheaper, thinner records that I bought brand new in the last few years.

  • Many Avro engineers went south to work at NASA for the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.

Had Avro Canada not folded and we didn't have the brain drain to the US, who knows what kind of aerospace powerhouse we would be right now.

  • Do you guys remember driving down the highway in the 90's and having your car absolutely covered in the mangled corpses of insects? To the point where wiper fluid is called bug wash?

I don't know if this is the same everywhere, but my car stays pretty clean these days.
