  • A ladder. If it's famous there's bound to be a good chunk of change down there.

  • Do you also turn off autocorrect? As for why I'm not proofreading my entries? I am. But typos happen. Try to put yourself into the shoes of the average office drone or consumer just using a PC as a tool. I'm pretty sure I've harped on this before, but most people aren't experts or enthusiasts, they just want a working computer that's as simple to use as possible. The benefits of a case sensitive-file system are far outweighed by how susceptible it is to user error.

  • I've used Linux, yes. And I'm not "crying" I just find it annoying. Good grief.

  • you should have not written them differently.

    But you did.

Remember that 99% of the time that's gonna be because of a typo for 99% users. They won't have File.txt, FILE.TXT and FiLe.tXt, they'll have ReportMay.docx and REportMay.docx or whatever.

And yeah, that includes me. I don't want case-sensitivity for that reason alone. Thanks, but no thanks.

  • By that standard racism isn't a thing at all. Biologically there are no human races.

  • Comment chains like this really highlight that the Lemmy userbase heavy skews towards a tech savvy crowd that enjoys tinkering with stuff. And that this userbase is really out of touch with "normal" people who aren't particularly tech savvy and who want things that Just Work™. Having to set up a whole system just isn't an alternative to a Fire Stick to >90% of people.

  • Also

Kids picking family farms is not “child labor.”

Yes it fucking is. What the hell. What else would it be? The fact that it's the parents directly exploiting their children does not make it better.

  • And penicillin. I'll gladly take the microplastics and credit scores if that's the price to pay.

  • They almost certainly expected it. That's why they've tried to cosy up to him, to get exemptions for their businesses.

  • Being attacked by a cat is annoying, not potentially lethal. Also cats don't usually attack without reason. If a cat keeps attacking for "no reason" that's learned behaviour. Their instinct is to run away from humans, which is what wild and feral cats do unless cornered.

  • Ah, yes. The Uyghur genocide: famously free of genocide.

not that difficult to be better than slavery, genocide, war and colonialism

Apparently it is, because other than constant wars China does all of those things.

  • Two bad things can be true at the same time.

Israel is currently engaged in ethnic cleansings in Gaza and the West Bank.

    True.

Many of Israel's neighbours would "drive the Jews into the sea" if they ever got the chance.

    Also true.

The answer to genocide is not inviting more genocide.

And yes, nukes are effective as a deterrent. Look at how reluctant the West is to support Ukraine against a genocidal invasion because of Russia's repeated nuclear threats. There's no way any country is going to give up its nuclear weapons after Ukraine showed just how little security guarantees from the great powers are actually worth.

  • Da war noch nie jemand. Das waren schon vor der Teilung dĂźnn besiedelte Gebiete.

  • That was before Netanyahu brought the far right into power, and before the US gave said far right a blank cheque for ethnic cleansing (and that's the charitable way of phrasing that).

Sadly the current Israeli government isn't likely to leave willingly. Certainly not while they have the full backing of the US.

  • It is. I kinda thought that was obvious.

  • Even worse, it's not caffeinated in any EU country.

  • At least until the next French election. Not exactly a long-term guarantee. Germany needs its own deterrent.

  • The first one is a long s, the second is the "normal" s.
