Do you also turn off autocorrect? As for why I'm not proofreading my entries? I am. But typos happen. Try to put yourself into the shoes of the average office drone or consumer just using a PC as a tool. I'm pretty sure I've harped on this before, but most people aren't experts or enthusiasts, they just want a working computer that's as simple to use as possible. The benefits of a case sensitive-file system are far outweighed by how susceptible it is to user error.
Remember that 99% of the time that's gonna be because of a typo for 99% users. They won't have File.txt, FILE.TXT and FiLe.tXt, they'll have ReportMay.docx and REportMay.docx or whatever.
And yeah, that includes me. I don't want case-sensitivity for that reason alone. Thanks, but no thanks.
Comment chains like this really highlight that the Lemmy userbase heavy skews towards a tech savvy crowd that enjoys tinkering with stuff. And that this userbase is really out of touch with "normal" people who aren't particularly tech savvy and who want things that Just Workâ˘. Having to set up a whole system just isn't an alternative to a Fire Stick to >90% of people.
Being attacked by a cat is annoying, not potentially lethal. Also cats don't usually attack without reason. If a cat keeps attacking for "no reason" that's learned behaviour. Their instinct is to run away from humans, which is what wild and feral cats do unless cornered.
Israel is currently engaged in ethnic cleansings in Gaza and the West Bank.
True.
Many of Israel's neighbours would "drive the Jews into the sea" if they ever got the chance.
Also true.
The answer to genocide is not inviting more genocide.
And yes, nukes are effective as a deterrent. Look at how reluctant the West is to support Ukraine against a genocidal invasion because of Russia's repeated nuclear threats. There's no way any country is going to give up its nuclear weapons after Ukraine showed just how little security guarantees from the great powers are actually worth.
That was before Netanyahu brought the far right into power, and before the US gave said far right a blank cheque for ethnic cleansing (and that's the charitable way of phrasing that).
Sadly the current Israeli government isn't likely to leave willingly. Certainly not while they have the full backing of the US.
A ladder. If it's famous there's bound to be a good chunk of change down there.
