Oh for the love of fuck. Americans. Your country isn't the centre of the universe. It doesn't matter where a company's headquarters are. If you are doing business in, for example, Germany, you have to abide by German laws. Being American isn't an excuse and it doesn't shield you from consequences for breaking the law.
Also, the big issue is that Valve isn't actually using their right to refuse service. People can spread all sorts of bigotry via Steam's discussions and groups without Valve acting on it. They're providing a platform for hate speech and that is inherently immoral, regardless of what the law says.
Valve also does business outside the US. American law doesn't clear them of their legal obligations in other countries. And besides, legality and morality are not always the same. Providing a platform for hate speech is supporting hate speech, and as far as I'm concerned that's unethical regardless of whether or not it's legal.
Really? Because in my experience you have to wade through racist, homo- and transphobic, and misogynistic shit the second you foolishly open the discussions page on any game that features black or brown, LGBTQIA, and/or female characters.
I used to have downstairs neighbours like that and I loved it, free underfloor heating, I just opened the windows when I felt it got too warm. Saved me a good bit of money because I basically didn't have to heat at all.
It's not just contrived it's unethical in the episode that's supposed to be justifying it. They're withholding a cure based on "well, fate wants you all to die." And yes, I'm going with fate and not evolution because that's not how evolution works dammit.
You're allowed to marry (or just date, or fuck) whoever you want in the US, regardless of the gender of anyone involved. Meanwhile in Iran being gay carries the death penalty.
Birth control isn't 100% effective and not all pregnancies are viable, nevermind desirable. Texas doesn't even allow abortions in case of rape you fucking ghoul.
I've lived in a similar enough complex, and visited people living in others. It's fine, not much different from any other apartment. They're usually fairly well thought-out, better than a lot of older apartment buildings. Basically universally ceilings though (2.5m instead of the usual 3m), which can make it look cramped fairly fast if you're not careful about furniture and decor.
The only real issue with the complex pictured here is light. I don't think the people living in some of those towers are gonna get much natural daylight.
I do acknowledge that, but a society is made up of individuals. And none of those individuals is responsible for the crimes committed by their ancestors. Guilt is not passed down through generations. I do not believe that people living in former colonies are entitled to reparations because my ancestors committed crimes against their ancestors, even if those crimes still have repercussions in the current day.
Reparations for what? At least here in Germany there's virtually (and I'm covering my bases here, I'm fairly sure that it's literally nobody) nobody left who could be held even partially responsible for colonialism, and I am not willing to pay for crimes that I did not commit. Very few people are, I'd imagine.
