  • Have you considered installing the roundabouts anyway and removing the driving licences of those incapable of manoeuvring around a simple roundabout?

Driving is not a right. If they can't perform simple manoeuvres without endangering others, they shouldn't be controlling a machine that can easily accidentally kill.

  • How have the Conservatives done on key issues? Slow progress has been made on social housing. From 2013 to 2023, the number of social rented homes fell from 4.0 million to 3.8 million, according to an estimate by the UK parliament. By 2022/23, just 15% of new affordable homes were for social rent. Before 2011 it was over half. In the 13 years before the Conservatives came to power, 362,000 new socially rented homes were built. In the 13 years from 2010 to 2023, this fell to 171,000.

All this combines to create an acute housing shortage. The National Housing Federation estimates there are 4.2m households in England with unmet housing needs.

The number of social homes being built has fallen by almost 90 per cent since the Conservatives came to power in 2010, new official figures have revealed.

Just 1,409 of the lowest-cost homes were started in England in the 2017/18 financial year - down from 39,402 in 2009/10.

Not to mention a revolving door for housing minister, with 16 people being minister within a 14 year period. Almost as if they didn't really give a shit about the position because many of them are landlords.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minister_of_State_for_Housing_and_Planning_(United_Kingdom)#List_of_ministers

  • "It is now nearly £10 million for a door which does not work. Somebody accountable must be identified and should perhaps resign for this terrible waste of public money," he said.

Meanwhile, Conservative Peer Lord Hayward estimated that the costs incurred from ensuring the door was manned at all times — in order to be opened — amounted to roughly £2,500 (€2,890) per week.

    £2,500 x 52 weeks = £130,000 a year.

But there's no money for disabled people. Gotta tighten the purse strings, sorry! Have you tried pulling yourself up by your boot straps?

  • Don't make their job easier for them. Fuck them! Health is wealth.

  • “I told you once that I was searching for the nature of evil. I think I’ve come close to defining it: a lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants: a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow man. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.”

  • Following the vote by MPs, four people were arrested in a protest organised by Palestine Action outside Westminster.

These included one man who the Met Police said had "blocked the gates of Downing Street with his mobility scooter"

    Terrorist!

In a statement after the vote, Palestine Action said the home secretary had "bundled our domestic civil disobedience protest group in with two violent, neo-Nazi militias".

"Many MPs told us that as a consequence they felt they did not have the option to vote against the measure," it said.

Sounds like a dereliction of duty from many MPs. Is that not what the ability to debate is about? They could also vote no explaining that they believe 1 out of the 3 groups aren't legitimate and that individual votes are required. But that sounds like too much like hard work I guess.

    385 for

    26 against

    239 abstained

Interestingly high amount of abstained. I think I need to email my MP for an explanation...

  • Aye that's fair. "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" and all that.

Just to clarify though, owning your own car and stereo falls under personal property, not private property. See my comment here for a brief distinction of the two: https://feddit.uk/comment/18187961

  • Communism (from Latin communis 'common, universal')[1][2] is a sociopolitical, philosophical, and economic ideology within the socialist movement,[1] whose goal is the creation of a communist society, a socioeconomic order centered on common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products in society based on need.[3][4][5] A communist society entails the absence of private property and social classes,[1] and ultimately money[6] and the state.[7][8][9]

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism

Let's see how the USSR performed against this definition of communism.

    • Common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products in society based on need.
Kind of, the state owned most means of production and distributed products. Arguably based on Russian need rather than any other Soviet republic's need. Let's be generous and say partial pass for this one.
    • Absence of private property and social classes
Presumably this is private property as in the distinction between personal and private property set out by Proudhon. In that regard, as the state owned most all private property, in a way it was absent. But the state still owned it, and the state is counter to communism. Social classes still remained.
    • Ultimately money
      Still existed.
    • The state.
      That definitely still existed.

So what part of the USSR was real communism? Kind of common ownership of the means of production and kind of the absence of private property. All other criteria were failed.

  • Aye, true progress was being made and that couldn't be allowed to happen. Germany's Blitzkrieg tactics were practised on Spain before they began their expansion.

I tried but I have an unfortunate case of bees in my brain so I didn't finish it. Need to give it another go. The portion that I read was interesting though!

They will have links to local protest and activist groups.

Ask them what they need. They will be the most in the know for your area.

You may have a skill that they require that you could do in you free time, you may just be an extra body to help carry items, or pad out a protest. Financial donations might help but don't feel obliged if you're not in a position to. People power is more important than financial power.

Encourage friends and family to do similar.

Try not to feel mad as everyone around you continues life as normal and accuses you of being a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

Read, be informed of what you're resisting and why.

Stay hopeful. Don't let the bastards grind you down.
