  • An account literally called 'Bot' (so probably run by the admins of that instance) that seems to pretty much mirror entire NSFW subreddits, specifically subreddits that content creators make use of.

But it doesn't matter, I'm probably gonna delete this comment and my first comment soon. Because I'm really not in the mood to hear all of the justifying of it and excuses for it from people who like to go around acting like paragons of virtue in all other areas.

  • Also Redditors: "Hmmm I wonder why no women's spaces are thriving on Lemmy."

I like the sentiment of this post but let's not forget that the buff, cool fedi users also seemingly downvoted women-oriented communities out of existence here. Not even WitchesvsPatriarchy survived. And let's not forget that the reason downvotes are disabled on Blåhaj is because the buff, cool fedi users just couldn't help themselves with downvote brigading there too.

I'm saying this as a simple user that just wants a platform to exist on, I don't think most people give a shit who owns or is running the platform as long as it seems like a place where they'll have a good time. Users make the platform, not anything else. So when people are shopping around for their next social media space, they're looking more at what the users are posting and doing than the infrastructure or CEO.

To this day I haven't tried Discord beyond a single conversation I was having with someone I met on Reddit at one point. But maybe women feel more at home there and maybe there's more cool stuff for random users to look at there right now. And it's probably just that simple.

Technical specifications aren't going to be winning more users. Content is.

  • Oh yeah it's definitely TV. But this was before the days of Netflix and shit and before I had uncapped wifi. I don't watch standard TV anymore either and when I do see it, same reaction as you. It's probably a bit different from country to country but I think standard TV is mostly geared towards older people now too because most under 40 have unplugged by now.

  • Or maybe I'm really wrong

Nah, I think you might be on to something with the third option and it's something to keep in mind. In fact I might even need to copy and paste your comment to remind myself about it because I think sometimes my anger gets the better of me in these situations.

But it can be so fucking hard to keep the anger at the bay. Just last night, discussing the fact that a poll in Germany showed that 26% of young men support the nu nazi party versus 11% of women, I had someone say to me "oh but women believe in horoscopes, so they're just as bad." How do you not flip your shit when coming across that kind of 'logic'?

And this brings me to another thing, seeing as this place is supposed to be all left wing and shit. There are a lot of supposed left wing people that will speak in the exact same way and have all the exact same points as right wing people when it comes to this discussion about men falling for right wing grifters at over twice the rate as women (as revealed by those Germany stats and many many other stats). A lot of supposed left wing people that will clutch their pearls and cry "sexist!" at the slightest suggestion that 26% of men versus 11% of women means that there's a problem that needs to be addressed.

So it actually feels a little bit like being stuck between a rock and hard place. It's not in my nature to just hold my tongue when I can see there's something wrong but I kinda wish it was because trying to have a constructive conversation about this anywhere other than in specific Reddit subs where you're preaching to the choir feels like banging your head against the wall.

So unfortunately, it seems to me that it's not just right wing men that need toddler reasoning in order to convince them but left wing men too. Remember there's a reason that twoxchromosomes and any other large women's spaces on Reddit have never been able to take off here on Lemmy. Not even WitchesvsPatriarchy survived this place. And that reason is downvote brigading. The same reason why LGBTQ+ communities need an instance with downvotes disabled. This is why I said earlier that I think women in leadership are the future. At least as far as progressive politics go. Because even progressive men seem to be further behind than women.

I hope you don't mind if I ask your advice about something. I was going to post this in the non-binary community but it feels safer to do this here. I identify as non-binary / genderqueer but am amab. But I've been thinking of doing some shape shifting in these conversations and referring to myself as a man. I feel like it would be a lot more effective to have a 'man' saying these things rather than keeping it neutral and vague like I have been. Although this idea makes me feel like a liar too. What do you think?

  • Lol yeah they seem like decent cars actually. But I made myself a promise back then to never give them a cent and I tend to stick to my principles (or at least like to think I do). It's just a personal thing though. And also kinda funny, I think.

  • social media is only as good as its user base

I'm with you on this one. Honestly I'm starting to consider jumping through all of the hoops required to get going on Reddit again myself. I can make do with few entertainment related subs but I keep thinking about how there's a reason that no major women's spaces from Reddit have been able to ever take off here on Lemmy. And the fact that LGBTQ+ communities needed their own instance with downvotes disabled as a solution against vote brigading. It gives this place a pretty dark undercurrent despite all of its supposed left wing fervour.

And then there's the smart ass sarcastic replies to everything, like you're experiencing in this thread, that I see in almost every single thread. I've seen a new user come to this platform and ask if there's a gen z community, only to get no answers to the question and a bunch of people going "wHo CAreS abOUT LabElS and GrOUps? Look at me, I'm such a free thinker!" Yesterday I saw someone posting that they wish there were more pop music and sports related communities, only for all the replies to be along the lines of "FuCK pOP muSIc, wHo waNTs to SEe that? Look at me, I'm such a free thinker!" And it's fucking annoying, if I'm being honest.

I don't want to feel this way because I love the idea of this platform. But I dunno, I'm missing being able to discuss certain feminist issues in communities where I'm not going to be called a sexist, have people comparing nazism to astrology to try and make a point that women bad too instead of addressing issues that need addressing, and have comments removed.

There's good people here too. People that have been very cool and encouraging. And who make the effort to actually answer people's questions about communities without just shitting on them. But to me, those people seem to be a few lights shining in the darkness that covers everything else. And it's starting to affect my mood negatively.

  • Yeah, Kid Rock rode on the coattails of bands like Limp Bizkit to have a little bit of fame back then. Although he never reached the same heights as most nu metal bands and honestly, the only song of his that I can even remember right now on the spot is that bawitidaba gibberish.

  • Even if this person is a troll, setting up all of these communities and making multiple posts all across the place to audience of none is pretty fucking sad. I mean, look at this:

This person actually spent time typing all of this as if they're speaking to all of their close friends. And two days later there it still is with the one default upvote and no comments.

In fact, this is making me literally sad for this person now. They probably need professional help.

  • repost everything from reddit to their own instance

And steal potential business away from amateur DIY workers trying to make a living. But the same people who tell you how pro working class they are and who complain about AI stealing fan art, won't see any problem with it because there's this weird entitlement thing going on as far as people's attitudes towards porn goes.

OnlyFans provides them a platform to sell their wares but doesn't pay them in advance. So it's not stealing from OnlyFans, it's literally stealing business straight from the worker's hands. Part of me has been tempted to start contacting them so that they can maybe take some sort of action against it.

  • To this day, I will never ever ever touch any Mazda products. All thanks to their dumb fucking zoom zoom advertising campaign about 20 years ago that involved their adverts playing twice during every ad break. Plus they were sponsoring shit, so it was everywhere. I feel like I still have PTSD from it. Fuck Mazda.

  • Any tips?

Going from my memories, use Mudkip lol. By the time it's Swampert, you can arm it with both Surf and Earthquake and steamroll almost anything in your path. And Ice Beam gives you a nice counter to your biggest weakness too. I used to solo the elite 4 with Swampert. The only ones that give you trouble are the Ghost types that cause you to use double PP, so go prepared with Leppa berries or a pill that makes your PP go up.

  • animations take so long

This is my biggest annoyance with Pokemon games, personally. Everything. Takes. So. Fucking. Long. To. Get. To. The. Point. I'm pretty sure 50% of 'gameplay' is waiting for fucking animations and waiting for the one or two lines of text at a time to get to the actual important information after telling you about friendship and the joy of raising Pokemon for the 100th time first.

I don't think that I would ever be able to play these games on the original hardware because being able to fast forward in an emulator is a gift from the gods.

  • Haha that reminds me of a conversation I was having with a friend once upon a time where I said something like: "I just want to meet someone that wants to spend Saturday night at home watching series and smoking a joint. But that person for me probably doesn't exist." And my friend responded with "Nah, they do exist but they're busy spending Saturday nights at home watching series and smoking a joint, so you'll never meet."

Also, small towns fucking suck and this is not a generational thing. You're stuck between a rock and hard place where the same people who are telling you about the 'bro code' and enforcing it on others, are all playing musical chairs with each other's boyfriends and girlfriends because the dating pool is so small.

If there's another piece of advice I could give you, fuck the bro code. It's a lie. None of these assholes will follow it themselves when the opportunity comes up for them and you'll be the only idiot trying to stay 'honourable'. Very few people that you ever meet have never dated someone before, so you're going to be always dating somebody's ex and you're going to be always breaking the code anyway whether you like it or not. And in a small town, you can't afford to pass up opportunities for the sake of assholes that you'll probably not even be friends with 10 years from now. And who would do the same to you without a second thought.

Also, I don't know if you saw my edit but I can't say this enough. Keep the heavy shit about marriage and children to yourself. Keep it light. Coming on too strong is the biggest romance killer. Try to put that shit out of your mind until much later in the relationship, if you can.

  • May I ask what steps you take to try and meet a partner? I'm asking because I'm pretty lonely too but that's because I actually never go out and meet people these days. Unfortunately most people have the idea that starting relationships in the workplace is not the way to go, even though you spend 90% of your life there. So you have to go out to clubs and pubs and shit and actually meet and mingle with strangers. Honestly I'm not sure what other options there are besides the workplace or clubbing.

I think that maybe something that is failing the always online Z generation (besides the toxic 'manosphere') is dating apps. They seem to be a bust and need to be ditched. Those apps are just there to harvest your data and make a buck from you. If they were to actually help you find love, then that company would lose a customer and source of data or income.

So I don't know what else to say other than, you need to actually go out and meet new people in order to potentially meet your person. And it also helps grooming yourself a bit, making sure to shave the neck beard and chin strap and looking like someone that is actually capable of taking care of themselves. That goes a long way in showing potential partners that you're not just looking for another mother to take care of you. And also, find a style and own it. You don't need to follow fashion trends, just look for a subculture or something that you vibe with and can feel confident wearing.

Just note, not trying to judge or anything. I actually don't know, maybe you're a party animal with an awesome dress sense lol. Just trying to throw a few ideas out there for you.

  • when/ if/ after a human mod reviews the comment

In my experience of being a reveddit watcher on Reddit, they'll literally never address the removed comment unless you specifically contact them about it. I dunno, maybe my comments have been restored or addressed but I blocked the community.

Moderators here have even less reason to use an automod that cannot detect context or nuance, because there's like 20 people in total making comments anywhere. And I don't need to put up with this shit.

  • Man: "I'm so lonely and I need help!"

Bystander: "You're lonely because you listen to people like Andrew Tate and treat women like shit. Try working on yourself to be a better person, so that people will actually be attracted to you."

Man: "Stop oppressing me, you sexist feminazi! The woke agenda is erasing white men and now just because you had the nerve to point out my flaws after I asked for help, I'm gonna punch a wall and vote for someone who will take your rights away."

Bystander: "Oh ok. Enjoy your loneliness and self pity then."

Moderator: Comments removed for sexism against a marginalized group

Everyone: "Why is no one helping guide men onto the right path? How could this be happening?!"

  • Uh, I thought that was already made clear when Facebook decided they needed to remove fact checking in order for right wing voices to be heard. For anyone without functional ears and eyes and brains to have been able to see how these people operate long before, that is.

  • No one looks at or cares who the moderators are when they post anything anywhere, EVER! NEVER EVER EVER!!!

Yup. I wish that it was possible to make it clear to moderators just how little of a fuck the average user gives about them. Because they generally seem to have delusions of grandeur and think of themselves as the most important people around. Which is fucking bullshit because without the users that they dismiss and treat like dirt, they wouldn't have a platform where they get to inflate their egos in the first place.

I actually made a post about this elsewhere but I'm gonna mention it here too. The reason the API thing on Reddit didn't cause every user to come here is because the moderators there made it all about themselves. To the average user, the whole 'protest' looked a lot like the people who treat users unfairly whining and crying about the admins treating them unfairly. And I can tell you, there was little to no sympathy for them. All they did was cry about their modding tools while locking entire communities that thousands or hundreds of thousands of people make use of. And they pissed everyone off.

I know that personally a big reason the API thing didn't do much for me in my decision to leave Reddit (or not) was because the same people that forced me into using services like reveddit because they like to silently remove people's comments without notice or a trace, were suddenly asking me for solidarity and to feel sorry for them. And at that time, my feelings towards the situation and the moderators who were crying about it was "go fuck yourselves."
