IBM argued that its patent, initially used to launch Prodigy, remains "fundamental to the efficient communication of Internet content." Known as patent '849, that patent introduced "novel methods for presenting applications and advertisements in an interactive service that would take advantage of the computing power of each user’s personal computer (PC) and thereby reduce demand on host servers, such as those used by Prodigy," which made it "more efficient than conventional systems."
According to IBM's complaint, "By harnessing the processing and storage capabilities of the user’s PC, applications could then be composed on the fly from objects stored locally on the PC, reducing reliance on Prodigy’s server and network resources."
The jury found that Zynga infringed that patent, as well as a '719 patent designed to "improve the performance" of Internet apps by "reducing network communication delays." That patent describes technology that improves an app's performance by "reducing the number of required interactions between client and server," IBM's complaint said, and also makes it easier to develop and update apps.
All I can say is yikes.
The text is probably made up, but people have done such swap posts several times before and got similarly opposite results. Usually the posts get removed from the sub when someone eventually notices the deception, but you can still read them if you have a link. It's a very toxic sub.
Ban the MBFC bot
The other day it labelled the internet archive as biased towards centre-left. The internet archive - it's like saying a stack of blank printer paper is biased. Beyond useless.
Yeah it's the equivalent of finding two dollars on the ground and getting excited because at this rate you'll be a billionaire soon enough. There's less than 2g of plastic in an SD card - the buttons on your shirt probably weigh more.
Quite literally the first paragraph of the article:
According to Soviet records 381,067 German Wehrmacht POWs died in NKVD camps (356,700 German nationals and 24,367 from other nations).
Or in more detail lower down in the section titled Soviet statistics:
According to Russian historian Grigori F. Krivosheev, Soviet NKVD figures list 2,733,739 German "Wehrmacht" POWs (Военнопленные из войск вермахта) taken with 381,067 having died in captivity.
The mic being active or not doesn't affect her hearing. If he interrupts her she'd still hear it, only the TV audience wouldn't, so she'd seem flustered.
I'm not sure which German you expect to have conducted this research other than a former Nazi, seeing as basically everyone left was a former Nazi. And I don't see how you can just dismiss the government report as Nazi lies when even the Soviets report a figure of 350 thousand dead.
They're not valid, they're excuses which are provably wrong. Samsung will currently sell you a phone with a jack which is ip68 waterproof, has a milspec durability rating and it costs a whopping €250. So clearly the jack is not a design limitation in any of those ways.
Sadly, I reckon about 2/3 of Android phones no longer have a jack, or close to 100% of flagship models.
Well the most annoying issue is that BT headphones work perfectly well with a phone or laptop that has the jack, it's not an either/or situation. So they were only removed to make you have to spend $200. The arguments about cost, durability or waterproofing are all nonsense.
I'm only willing to buy a phone that has the jack, it reduces the selection, but I'm not willing to compromise on that. And someone gifted me some airpods recently (pro 2). Tried them out and they were ok I guess, but they also had too many downsides, so they sit on a shelf now. It's not a good enough alternative for me.
Games are already horifically inefficient
That's so far from the truth, it hurts me to read it. Games are one of the most optimised programs you can run on your computer. Just think about it, it's a application rendering an entire imaginary world every dozen milliseconds. Compare it to anything else you run, like say slack or teams, which makes your CPU sweat just to notify you about a new message.
With 30% ownership it could have been at the forefront of generative AI, which OpenAI released to the world in 2022.
Do they think openai invented the concept of generative ai, because that's what their statement implies?
You can hide chat and you'll barely even notice it's online. And I don't see how it's grindy - in fact they made the base game so easy your companion can kill everyone for you.
If you just play the base game content from 2011, it's 8 completely voice acted stories that are interconnected into one big story. And it's free.
The first panel ruined it for me as well, though. It's meant to be political allegory, sure, but the first panel just makes it bad history instead.
It's not that uncharacteristic. Mono is a fully open source project they didn't create, didn't really work on, and one they can't extract any value from. So this is basically a gesture that doesn't cost them anything, but at the same time it doesn't do much except generate a headline.
You should probably use a double slash in that non-equality sign as a single slash will be seen as an escape character by some parsers and then not rendered. In my client it just shows two equal signs, i.e. the opposite of what you wanted to convey.
