  • so, even if we assume that they should be speaking from the perspective of historical concensus - if sufficient consensus exists, which it does to an overwhelming degree on this topic - we're still gonna have issues. let's say an ethical AI would be speaking in the subjunctive or conditional mood (eg "they believe that..." or "if it were to...").

then all you'd need to do is say "okay, rephrase that like you're my debate opponent"

  • um, no... Americocentric again

Nationalism has to do with pride in a shared cultural identity, whereas Patriotism is pride for one's country.

in other countries, there are strong cultural ties that bond people together. shared language. a relationship to the land. hundreds if not thousands of years of history. some countries have dozens of such groups.

nationalism is a person from that group taking pride in that identity. patriotism is taking pride in your country as a whole. so for example, you can be proud to be Gujarati, and you can be proud to be Indian.

now, in the United States, there really isn't a national identity beyond shopping malls and jingoism. so i can see how nationalism is rarely seen positively. all you get of it is nazis and fake irish frat bros.

but, no, really I think patriotism is a far bigger problem than nationalism. one's language is your flesh and blood, it's who you are. what the fuck does a country mean to you? the people who lock you up?

  • I dont really care, but I won't be using piefed. the default UI doesn't allow me to adjust the size of thumbnails as i see fit: tiny and on the left. that's a deal breaker for me, even if it's petty.

I do not like new reddit and i have never liked new reddit and i have tried new reddit and will not be using new reddit. piefed UI is a new reddit ripoff.

or i guess a lot of social media platforms do that layout, Twitter FB insta. thankfully i dont waste my time with that shit either. I waste my time with YOU nerds and I am happy with that

  • Are you serious? arrow keys instead of clicking? let's take it further:

    shift+arrow highlights letters
    ctrl+arrow skips entire words
    ctrl+shift+arrow highlights entire words
home/end jumps to start/end of line
ctrl+home/end jumps to start/end of text box
ctrl+shift+home/end jumps to start/end of textbox and highlights it
um, do you need me to explain what ctrl+xcv do? or ctrl+zy? or ctrl+asdwerfgop?

isn't this just basic typing? didnt yall learn this in the 90s??? how are you all on the internet right now

wait til you hear about how i swipe texted all this

  • I'm kinda mind blown that this is even considered a tip. isn't this just basic functionality of a text box???

it's shit like this that makes me think I do know tech a little bit, until i stumble on an actual tech community and feel like I know nothing

  • yep. Elden Ring is an example... cant even play that game without my fans going nuts. I didnt even buy the DLC expansion yet... taking a break until I get a better PC. Being a patient gamer means always having cool games to look forward to, someday far in the future lol
