  • You're also never able to meet and strategize with the thousands of other small donors to agree upon a single set of policies you can demand that the politician fulfill, whereas a handful of rich bundlers can get together for one dinner party, raise as much money as you and thousands of your fellow schmucks do, and hash out a cohesive list of policy demands that satisfies everyone at the table while being easy for the beneficiary politician to grant.

Plus those rich donors are few enough in number that they can collectively shut down the politician's money hose over a simple text chain if he/she breaks promises, whereas you won't be able to get the scattered thousands of small money donors together to collectively bargain for anything if the politician's actions leave you all completely abandoned, and if you choose to stop giving they'll be able to go elsewhere to quickly fleece more small money donors.

  • They are too trapped emotionally by the modern brand of campaigning via parasocial relationships, if Biden is sad about being forced out, they will be sad too. To them it's like being unable to say no to their grandma who has dementia and arthritis, when she asks to hold their baby. They just tell themselves that the baby will probably be okay, then cross their own fingers when they see hers begin to tremble heavily.

  • Much worse than I expected. He scrambled together two separate thoughts: 1. He nominated the first black woman to SCOTUS and 2. He was the VP to the first ever black president. He winds up saying that he himself was the first black woman VP to the first black president. This is not purely a misspeaking or speech-related issue, this is an undeniable cognitive decline issue.

  • I want to punch the Twitter sycophants who will inevitably say something like "he simply meant he was proud to nominate the first black woman Supreme Court justice and serve as VP to the first black president."

The ability to communicate with absolute clarity and avoid being taken out of context by a sensationalism-hungry media is a mandatory skill for a politician, and to expect any benefit of the doubt for any elected official is amateur hour and means you have already lost your fight.

  • You aren't even reading my comments in their entirety before flying off (I actually said he did do a lot of good for China), and your relationship to Mao is like that of a Swiftie to Taylor Swift.

I have extended family who are officials in the CCP, who would never give a shit about Mao being called a strongman, and would not consider some US lib YouTuber a centrist for thinking that. But your criteria for "strongman" appears entirely based on the politician's personal affects rather than their actual policy, which for Mao was literally asking every household have a picture of him in it to thank, and rooting out and jailing dissidents.

Now, a lot of Mao's initiatives were a necessary course of action to end things in China like the monopolies and polygamy and foot binding, but getting mad at Contrapoints lumping Mao with other "strongmen" in some 2020 video, and equivocating her views with Biden's for it is extremely online shit, the very parasocial behavior you accuse me of, the mirror opposite of the AnCap who gets mad when someone online calls Milei a fascist because on paper he's a libertarian.

Contrapoints is basically YouTube John Oliver, I am glad if moderate libs watch her crap instead of MSNBC or Bill Maher or Sam Harris.

  • As someone whose grandfather and great aunt were both professors sent to a labor camp by Mao, and whose mother grew up having to thank a portrait of Mao before dinner every evening, but still believes he did a lot of good for China, I forgive her.

  • I have not seen that but I will forever be glad she was steering some people away from stuff like Jordan Peterson at the height of "attack helicopter" transphobia and "Intellectual Dark Web" nonsense. I am sure she makes no effort to turn anyone communist, but plenty of liberals, especially in red states, who already regard Elizabeth Warren as far left, are better for having watched her.

  • I think she'll probably become a standard bearer out of touch Dem as she gets richer (a la Patton Oswalt), but will never end up like Brianna Wu trying to do anti-woke stuff for attention because she already has a huge following.
