Life's a bitch and then we die. We haven't done more than get a glimpse of the bad part yet.

This shit started when everyone started looking to the federal government to solve all their problems. Started caring only about who was President but not paying attention to who was running the schools or local governments. Looking for the easy path instead of the right or best path.

As long as we still have elections, there is still a chance to turn this country around with minimal bloodshed. But it takes actually paying attention to whom your voting for and not just voting for the letter by their name. And then holding them accountable when they fall short.

I could go on and on about all of the ways that this can still be turned around, but I've got work in seven hours so it's bedtime.

It exists, but there is almost nobody writing. I also haven't seen any other writing communities. I'm not interested in writing, usually, but I always enjoy reading what others have wrote.

Well, that is certainly one way to vax a community against most contagious diseases. And I will admit that it’s better than not vaccinating at all. But not by much. The standard vaccine protocol would be cheaper and more effective.

I get the sarcasm, and the downvotes, but I have always viewed my employer more of a customer. My product that I am selling is my time, passion and skill. So with that in mind, what can you bring to the table? What’s your skill set?

If you have a CDL or can get one, almost everyone is hiring. Company driver pay is generally in the $55k - $120k range. Though your first year or 2 will probably be less. Downside is you’re probably away from home a lot, and are held personally accountable for any damage you do. Literally, I could quit my current job, and be hired and getting payed by a new company within the week. Historically the average has been 2 days.

If that doesn’t float your boat:

I know of several towns within a 50 miles of me, that don’t have local electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs or even a handyman. You could charge as much as the traffic will bear.

Everyone in the local area is looking for every type of mechanic and can’t find them.

Nurses are always in demand (and very much not respected enough). Pays well too.

If you prefer working with Unions, the Boilermakers and Pipefitters will both train you. Both have more work than people last I heard.

Farmers and Garbage collectors both are having their help either deported or leaving the country, so they are probably hiring.

But ya, if you’re looking for a nice comfy office job, that would indeed be a tough row to hoe. Everyone wants the comfy jobs, so they’re scarce and the pay is shit. There is a reason I drive a truck.

The TSA workers have the same simple solution to a shit boss everyone else has. If the BS out paces the pay, walk away.

I've always used NameCheap. Can't speak to their ethics, but customer support has been excellent the few times I've needed it.

If it's actual art (digital or no), yes. Each person is distinct even if they are faking someone else. With enough data, a profile can be built. It's how the real artist behind fake original paintings can be Identified.

People are just really bad at random, and are not precise enough to physically copy someone else.

Digital copies are another matter, but might still be traceable with a large enough dataset.

Kinda, but not really. And only if you are creating and logging into these accounts via a method that conceals your personal IP address. Without that, at best, you are simply obscuring your identity.

And even if you are properly concealing your ip address, If you interact with the rest of us enough, a profile could still be built up using writing or art styles as the identifier, eventually becoming detailed enough to identify the user.

Jk Rowling and Steven King both had alts that were linked to them that way. And it wasn’t a government that did so, but their fans.

Before I grew enough spare capacity at home to self host our family’s server, I was using MCPro hosting. It was fine and at the time, cheap. I understand they’ve been bought by Apex now though. No experience with them.

Not OP but if I had to guess, probably Turnkey File Server.

When I was first playing with NC I was using a RPi3 with an external SSD for a drive. Performance was pretty good, but as soon as I tried the same setup in a VM, the performance tanked. The only way I found to avoid the performance penalty was a manual install like it was bare metal, which I didn't really want to do. My experience with such setups is that they tend to be brittle.

My understanding was that the performance penalty was caused by the chain of VMs. Proxmox --> Ubuntu VM --> Docker. I don't know enough about it to say for sure.

My NextCloud is running on an old desktop that's been repurposed into a server. The server is running Proxmox, and NC is running in docker directly on Proxmox using the nextcloud-aio image.

Found that had better performance than running it in a VM and was less headaches than the other install options.

I keep thinking about moving it to dedicated hardware, say some sort of mini pc, but it hasn't been a high priority for me.
