  • I get what you mean, but IMO we are at the point where the "good christians" should be thinking of a different name for themselves and attempting to distance themselves from the rest of Christianity.

When the great majority of self identified christians are hateful, bigoted, and cruel, then Christianity as a whole is hateful, bigoted, and cruel. People outside of the religion do NOT see a distinction between those that actively advocate for hate and those that are just still showing up for church on sunday.

  • It's rainbow capitalism, sure, but if someone is going to make money selling rainbow cans with alcohol in them, at least this is outside of pride month and owned by an actual gay person. It's more genuine than rainbow cans of bud light, at least.

And the more successful Gay Water is, the more this can be an easy response to that dumbass "go woke go broke" shit.

  • This is basically why I'm not really using the apps. Firefox mobile browser seems the most convenient way to browse IMO, at least for now. If I want to look at the local for sh.itjust.works I just open a new tab at sh.itjust.works.

  • Nah, asking it to do math is perfect. People are looking for emergent qualities and things it can do that they never expected it to be able to do. The fact that it could do somewhat successful math before despite not being a calculator was fascinating, and the fact that it can't now is interesting.

Let the devs worry about how good it is at what it is supposed to do. I want to hear about stuff like this.

  • It's kinda meta and more than a little dumb. The "joke" of the subway meme is to have the text have nothing to do with subway, and to show obvious evidence of lots of edits and compression, like there was a back-and-forth argument. Idk why.

  • I think too many people are worried about "what is better for the site".

I think lemmy would stay nicer if it grows slowly and doesn't try to attract necessarily every demographic under the sun, like reddit tried to. Worrying about stuff like "high quality content", reposts, and maximum community engagement seems to me like it is a speed run to toxicity and bloat.

Also this community is practically explicitly for reposts, so maybe you would improve your personal experience by just blocking it?

  • I've seen some of your comments the last few days, you seem to be using lemmy a lot!

It looks like you have picked a name/theme for your profile that you plan to stick to. Do you think you are offering lemmy something it needed by trying to "troll" people? It was certainly something reddit had a lot of, but I can't agree that it belongs here.

  • Call me boring if you want but this was already overdone and annoying by the second time they did it. Not looking forward to dumb screenshots of hard to understand pixel drama taking over everything again, it will probably be posted all over lemmy too...

  • I hate the phrase "people want to work"

Only in the twisted context we act like is default is it true.

People want to have good food, socialize, play, and be comfortable. We work to make those things happen. Some people are lucky enough to make money doing something they already enjoy somewhat, but that isn't common or something that can be expected. 90% of people, at least, if given the option to do whatever they like and still have their needs met, would not choose to "work" in the way that we do now.

  • Owners are owners. I can't have too much sympathy if a group of disenfranchised people, who have never had the opportunity to own anything, don't distinguish between hyper capitalists and regular vanilla capitalists. Both are pieces of the system that denies people the value of their labor.

  • The tankies have been on lemmy longer than anyone else (and helped develop it I guess?) And they are still around. The normal instances have defederated from them and no one has to interact with them, but they still exist.

Whether you consider it a pro or a con, there are no advertisers terrified of negative brand association here, and the only way an instance gets shut down is if it gets caught hosting explicitly criminal content.

Lastly this isn't a tankie. Tankies are insanely pro-military, obsessed with nationalism (for places like china or russia usually), and one of their favorite pastimes is denying the negative history of their favorite "communists".

This is just a dark joke about the history of how workers rights were originally fought for, in america and elsewhere. Look up the coal wars.

  • They started stacking stones when they got stuck on the island, and she symbolically stopped with the seashell when they were free. It is the intended final addition. Kinda makes it an informative monument, they have a sort of physical record of how many generations were stuck on the island.
