Obviously, fuck the SNA. They're genocidal ghouls in the pocket of NATOs second largest power.

But to my understanding, black banners like that long predate ISIS and have a long history in the Muslim world, dating back to Muhammad.

I don't know how to read Arabic, but if anyone does, it would be worth comparing this banner to the ISIS one

But simplifying any random thing about Kurds to "US State Department propaganda" feels orientalist to me. Something something no investigation.

They were cooperating with the Assad government in a variety of areas, including in the joint operation of oil fields. And their goal is very much not to create an ethno state.

Obviously we can and should be critical of their cooperation with the US, but they were ultimately relying on a larger balance of powers which no longer exists.

Turkey, the second largest NATO power has been violating Syrian sovereignty for years, ethnically cleansing the Kurdish population from the north west (something they were also cooperating with Assad to try and stave off, mind you, because their goal is not to be an independent state).

At this point, if Rojava wants to take US money and weapons, and be continual thorn in the side of Turkey, then I say let them.

The SDF and HTS/Turkey are deeply antagonistic towards each other, and the SDF was largely cooperating with Assad on the ground, while also recieving US air support.

The realities of this conflict are far more complex than you're suggesting.

So now that the Assad government is gone do we all become Rojava guys? Is it time to send anarkiddies some flowers to let the tankies into the Abdullah Ocalan stan community?

Yeah Turkish proxies are already invading rojava. And the US clearly prefers HTS to be their stooges. Supporting a Kurdish polity on the border with NATOs second largest power could be a valuable thorn in the side of the west

I feel like I read somewhere that the third arrow symbolized either Anti-communism or anti-capitalism, depending on what wing of the SPD was using it.

At any rate, I bought a two-pack of lefty patches, one being a hammer and sickle, and the other being a Three arrows. I tend to keep the three arrows one on my bag as a kind of dogwhistle to fellow leftists.

Regardless of is a official meaning, as used by the Iron Front, it's become a general anti-fascist symbol that's more covert than the anti-flag logo that chuds all know now.

Interesting that the article brings up Chicanos. If we like podcasts here, someone shared this Decolonized Buffalo episode on Indigenous perspectives on Chicanismo that seems very relevant!

I'll definitely watch this later! It's also worth noting that the FRSO has a very fleshed out line on Chicanosmo and a conception of the formerly Mexican parts of the US as an oppresed nation. So that's why that gets such a significant mention in the article.

People are free to enjoy whatever kind of music. I happen to think Imagine Dragons is schlock music for car commercials, but that's besides the point.

It's just not music that fits with the setting at all. It feels like they just blew a chunk of their production budget on expensive licensed music, because they had that sweet sweet Netflix money to throw around. Not because it enhanced the atmosphere or emotionality of the piece.

I definitely find its overall story to be really underwhelming. I do not care at all about the political machinations of this setting. The more grounded, interpersonal drama between the show's lead characters is much more well done
