I had some good male teachers. The ones who weren't so good were easily angered and lashed out at the class. The ones who I much preferred knew how to lay down rules and get the respect of the class.

I looked at Lemmy.world initially because it's the biggest server, but I signed up for Feddit.uk because I can see UK-related content in one place by viewing "local" posts on the home page ("local" just shows posts from your server, and "all" shows posts from across all Lemmy servers).

If I signed up for Lemmy.world then I wouldn't have that feed of just UK content when I want it. Instead I'd have to visit each UK-related community separately, I guess.

Tankies are going to be upset, because according to them, Democrats are just as bad as Republicans.

You could say Germany isn't unique though. The US is also split between those who want to be friendly with Russia (Republicans) and those who don't (Democrats).

With Germany I guess Merkel believed that business ties with Russia would persuade Russia to not threaten Europe, but now that theory has been disproven, so Germans seem to be more supportive of the idea of cutting ties with Russia and boosting Germany's defence spending.

It's odd that the article title says "majority of Europeans" when the article itself makes clear that only some western European countries were surveyed. So I thought people should know that.

Yeah I thought that. This is probably just Trump's attempt to appear "neutral" when he isn't actually neutral.

I like DST. I like having sunlight later into the evening during the summer.

I don't know about the apps because I normally use Lemmy on the web. There might be an option in your app to just see posts from your subscribed communities though.

On the Lemmy.world website you can see posts from your subscribed communities by clicking the "subscribed" tab near the top of the page (the other tabs are "local" which shows you just posts from your instance - Lemmy.world in your case - and "all" which shows you the top posts from all Lemmy servers).

Also on the Lemmy.world website, if you scroll down on the main page, you can see your subscribed communities in a list on the right-hand side of the page. I sometimes use that list when I want to look at a particular community.

I could give it a shot, and see if my ISP notices. If they do object then I guess I could move to a cheap VPS.

In both cases you have a person doing something that many people would consider bad. Then this person gets mad when others find out about their behaviour. If you don't want people to find out you did something, maybe just don't do it in the first place.

I think it's pretty comparable. The guys in the OP are getting mad at Derek but they're the ones who said bad things in the first place. Their actions caused this. All Derek did was let people know the truth, and maybe it's good when people know the truth.

If you find out that someone cheated on their wife, do you have to keep it private to protect the cheater's "privacy"?

Maybe it's better if that person's wife knows the truth.

I've thought of self-hosting a website at home on something like a Raspberry Pi but I thought of two problems with that idea:

1. I think most ISPs don't like it if you try to host a website on a domestic internet connection, so maybe they would cancel your contract at some point.
2. If somebody out there doesn't like the website you're hosting then maybe they would try to attack your home server and therefore your home network, and maybe they would compromise your home network. Maybe it's just safer to host a website on something like Hetzner.

I don't know if I'm just worrying too much. Maybe I am.

Who knows. And maybe this proposed project will go nowhere. But it would be cool if the European public sector does end up using Linux on the desktop.

As always, the year of the Linux desktop is just around the corner...

Maybe Lemmy is a 2020s version of phpBB (the forum software, which is open source like Lemmy is). Lemmy and phpBB can both be hosted by anyone, but of course the interesting thing about Lemmy is that Lemmy servers can share their content with each other.

My hope is that Norris wins the race, although I'll be happy if it's anyone except Red Bull.
