  • I recently reached out to the Ontario Minister of Education and the Minister of Privacy to ask why there are tech positions in school boards when they mostly outsource to companies like Microsoft and Google instead of using OSS options. It’s a bit concerning, especially since my child is set to receive a Chromebook next year. I’m planning to decline that and instead provide them with a Linux notebook.

  • I agree with WG however I need https for a few locally hosted items like actual budget so I have that through nginx proxy manager. I was debating adding Authelia in front with some of my others (audiobook shelf, home assistant and music assistant) as sometimes I disconnect from my home network and forget to reconnect.

  • I think there's a healthy discussion about technology. The fact that people are open to discuss their concerns about AI and the ramifications of the technology is exactly what is needed in a discussion. Technology for the sake of technology is not needed, that's the play book these giants don't seem to realize. They are rewarded for technology and their ability to destroy and wreck the power grid without having to pay restitution or taxes. It's capitalism when in fact taxpayers are constantly the ones footing the bill with grants, tax levies, or holding the bag with bad contracts and needing to fix the problems these corporations leave in their wake.

  • I've never heard of Reclaim.. How is that heat pump treating you? We got a Bryant (I believe it's a Midea rebadged) and our solar is a Sol-Ark inverter (I still need to figure out how to get it off WiFi and just local using CANbus..) and LONGi panels.

  • Definitely a perfect world. I kept my Amazon account and keep an eye out whenever there's a huge discount on a product such as their warehouse deals. I was too slow to finalize my order of an APC UPS that was over 50% off.

  • I mean 1-2 hours a day is a lot to begin with. At 6 kids are doing homework and learning to read.

I'm definitely pro gaming and my son and daughter today maybe an hour or two a week and usually it's Animal Crossing. We spend much of the time reading what is written (they are French first so this is English exposure). I rather they game than watch nonsense TV.

For Christmas my brother bought them an Android handheld with retro ROMs. That is much more difficult to control and my kids do get warped into bingeing.

Maybe recommend Omh it's a great iOS game that's educational.
