  • As with any invisible or otherwise difficult to monitor birth control method, this is really only for people in dedicated relationships.

It goes both ways. A man shouldn't trust a women he just met to be on birth control. A women should have the same reservations.

This is for people who can trust a long term partner, and who wouldn't be destroyed by the failure of the product. And that's still a huge market.

  • These things were NEVER fucking left open at the park near me. Could wait there the entire day and the same fucking kid would be using it the entire time, completely oblivious to your attempts to get him to move.

I swear, I probably only touched the thing once when i was a child. I came back with my daughter a few years ago and nobody was giving it a second glance. Used my kid as an excuse to finally get to play with the thing...

  • Same here, although mine was with a fresh install. Only hiccup I had was from an outdated archinstall script with incorrect dependencies. Since the system has been up and running I've seen zero issues with plasma 6 itself.

Went from mint with cinnamon and x to arch with kde and wayland, and somehow it's been a smoother experience...

  • It's effectively non-functional. "Absolute shit" is overselling it.

I know I could just use the proton version and get decent performance, but the fact that it has a native client that just doesn't work kind of killed my expectations for the future. It's one thing if the issues were new, but the map bug was reported over 4 years ago...

  • It's a funny situation when it comes to government work, because technically the job doesn't actually produce anything. There are no shareholders and no profits. If an asshat micromanager wants to see a bunch of people keeping their office seats warm, they don't give a shit about productivity.

My office would genuinely rather I take the day off, and that mindset is never going to change. Luckily, I get a decent amount of remote time, but there is literally no reason that it couldn't just be 100% remote.

  • Internet connectivity isn't the only reason for faster networking speeds. A faster local wireless connection still has reasonable applications.

Not saying that I'll jump on board with upgrading all of my devices for the new annual wifi standard, but it's still cool that things are improving.

  • I've got all Dewalt for the stuff that needs to last (circular saw, reciprocating saw, drills, etc), but for some things I get the cheap garbage because the cost difference is so extreme and I know I'm just going to replace them every couple years anyway.

Most of my yard equipment is ryobi. All of the stuff with massive batteries is just so stupidly expensive from Dewalt and Milwaukee. I don't expect an outdoor lithium ion battery to last more than 5 years anyway, so instead of getting the high quality version, I got the shit one and had money to spare on extra batteries.

  • For daily use, sure - but it completely excludes itself as an option for road trips in the US and parts of Canada. There's a stretch of interstate road near me with nearly a 100 mile gap between service stations.

I know that this isn't the purpose of this battery, but it's a valid reason why a lot of people might be hesitant to buy one. Many people can't afford multiple vehicles for different purposes. You have the car you drive to work with, and if you happen to go on a trip you just use the same thing.

Maybe 99% of use occurs within constraints that this battery can handle, but if you can only afford one vehicle, then this is still a pretty suboptimal option. That being said... it could still be cheap enough to not matter. I didn't see any mention of price in that article.

  • Yeah this really makes no difference in the final outcome. You're still being robbed. They've just given you more advance notice of the day they'll break your windows... and somehow this is still considered "okay" and reasonable.

It's been said a million ways by this point, but it needs to be said every time this comes up. If buying isn't owning, then pirating isn't stealing.

  • You can always just undervolt the cpu and take out the gpu. Sure, a 1000w power supply is going to be inefficient at 20% draw, but if you already have old hardware it isn't always cost effective to replace it just because of a higher power draw.

Also the pi is great for stuff like dns and network storage, but it's going to struggle with transcoding as a media server. I can't speak for the 5 from personal experience, but the 4 was completely incapable as a jellyfin/plex server. I just use an old stripped down computer for media and the pi is relegated to dns adblocking.

  • You could always just make separate movie/tv sections and just fill it with symlinks instead of the actual files. I don't know how you'd automate it if you can't get consistent metadata, but it's easier than managing your own metadata fixes.

  • And yet the accidental theft of walking out of a store with unpurchased goods is still punishable by the same laws that would affect those with destructive intent.

Sure, intent "should" be a major factor in crime, but it is definitely skewed in how it is regularly applied.

  • Old mmos had adventure and discovery. The current state of the internet doesn't allow for adventure and discovery in an online multi-player game.

With Asheron's Call we had Maggie The Jackcat and the VN boards, and that was it. You couldn't just look up the best path across the obsidian wastes to Ayan Baqur and find a youtube video explaining all of the danger points and farming areas. You had to just do it yourself or communicate with real people in real time to figure things out.

That magic is gone and it's never coming back... and it sucks 😕

AC was clearly better than EQ though 👍
