  • That sounds very cozy. I will admit to not being a fan of eating in bed though.

I'm already up and about, even took Mr Woof on a morning walk (albeit a short one, given the weather). Now snuggled on the couch listening to Miss Meow snoring away on her window hammock - now that I've solved her problems getting onto it she is a definite fan.

  • I keep looking at completely the wrong spot on the weather radar through force of habit. I think the next bit of rain is going to miss us, if I'm wrong we'll come back from our walk soggy. I really need to find Mr Woof's robe, I know it's in a box somewhere...

  • 4/10

I did not know any of the answers, but my guessing game was above average today.

  • Claim a refund. You can return anything, for any reason. Something like that, (especially when you put the reason in that it was not as described) they often don't even want you to return it.

The other thing you should do with Temu is go to any past orders (within two weeks) and click on the price adjustment button - it the price has gone down since you purchased they will give you a credit for the difference.

  • The wind seems to have died down a bit here. The feels like temp is now 0.3o which is the warmest I've seen it all day!

  • It's miserable weather, but at least I can now be confident my heater is up to the task.

I've now done the setup for the outdoor security cameras, I just need the weather to improve enough for me to go outside and mount them. It's just a couple of screws to clamp on to the gutter so it shouldn't take too long - the hardest bit will be deciding the best postion for the one in the back yard.

Unfortunately my leave is over and I have to go to work tomorrow. My first night shift in ages, hopefully the novelty of meeting a bunch of new people and learning how to do my job in a different place will stop me falling asleep.

  • Given they are sold as a pre-packaged item I think it would not just be against social norms, but could also be illegal. Especially if you have to break a seal to do it. It's like openeing a few bags of jelly snakes to consolidate the red ones because you don't like the mix.

It's not the same as the bag of grapes which are still weighed at checkout and just divided into bags for convenience.

  • In today's edition of flat-pack assembly:

Very basic, but functional and very cheap.

Lots of little pieces involved in this one.

  • That was invigorating. I got to start my walk with a game of Pick Up the Rubbish Bin and Chase Down my Rubbish Strewn Down the Street. Just in time too, the truck was collecting it just as we got back.

My new laundry rack and remote control for the garage have both arrived. I think I'll need to move the van to access the controller to program the remote, I might wait until it's not so windy to do that, I'm likely to lose half the contents of the garage if I open the door.

  • Wind's howling

Edit: I'm going to brave the outdoors anyway. Feels like temp is still below zero out there, so if you don't here from me again assume I turned into an icicle.

  • Succulent baby tentacles, with crisp and crunch little suckers. Also easy to win against in a fight for a croissant.

  • A plate of tiny little tentacles, lightly spiced and deep fried

  • That's a beautiful photo.

  • A place called Living Styles, but it was a clearance item which has now been discontinued. I got quite a bit of furniture and decor items from them which have all been really good, so worth a look at any way.

  • Step 1 in life admin day complete:

It is much more solid than I expected for the price, and a touch bigger than I was envisaging. It mostly went together easily too, with only a few bolts at the end which were tricky to position and in a place that didn't allow you to turn the allen key fully. I think I've only got three more bits of furniture to assemble now, the two bedside tables and a small shelf.

Edit: and I now have a working computer too! The important peripherals have all been installed: mouse, keyboard, speakers, and cat sleeping mat.

  • Yes, I have a few plants I'll be moving. My basic plan is to put in a native garden on the side and back on the left, which is the bit next to the outdoor area and where you look out from the lounge. Then have a herb and vegie garden on the side and back on the right, with a couple of citrus trees on the side. Keeping the centre section as grass.

That assumes the landlord approves, of course. But I can't see why they won't. I just need to actually get around to asking for permission, it's on the to do list. It should add value to the place for them, and it gives me a project to do with lots of physical work which will be good for me - and the cost of a gym membership will buy a lot of tubestock instead! If the landlord hates plants for some reason I'll just to the herb and vegie garden (which they are not allowed to say no to without a good reason) and probably put the citrus into some pots.

  • Miss Meow is finding her wooden climbing frame a touch high to jump on (and she shuns the little ladder designed to help). I've put a plastic container there to give her a step and she's happily using it now, which is good as that's the access to her food platform and the window hammock (which she is snoozing on in the morning sun right now). I've ordered a set of little steps as a more permanent solution.

Today's goals: life admin and getting the computer set up.

Edit: getting the computer set up has a bonus feature of letting me access the vacuum cleaner, which I put in a cupboard and then put the computer stuff in front of.

  • That's a bit mad. I went out with coat and beanie, although the beanie didn't last long and the coat was unzipped about half way.

I don't really mind the cold much when walking (although the icy drizzle yesterday was a bit much). It doesn't take much effort to warm up, it's really only when sitting around that the cold is a problem - or especially trying to do things like type with cold fingers. I've got very low heat tolerance though, once you get past the mid 20's I find it's getting unpleasant, by the 30's I just want to lie down and whimper.

  • We've almost reached 0 now (still feels -3.7o). Its now beautifully sunny with bright blue skies, so we're heading off on the morning walk.
