  • Date based version numbers is just lazy. There's nothing more significant about a release in two weeks (2025.x.y) than today (2024.x.y).

At least with pride versioning there's some logic to it.

  • Single player blackjack against the dealer is a good choice.

The basic rules of the game are easy to implement so the payoff is quick and you can extend it later with additional complexity if you like.

    • Aces as 1 or 11
    • splitting doubles
    • Betting
    • Random card, single deck, multiple decks etc
    • Dealer logic as AI
    • Player AI with card counting
  • Wealth is anything beyond having the necessities of life covered.

If you can afford a reasonable home, your bills, food, any dependents, eating out once a week, hobbies, taking a holiday or two per year, and contributing to your retirement then you're living comfortably.

Anything beyond that is wealth, it allows you to splash out on luxury products, luxury holidays etc.

Some people may never realise they're wealthy because they live excessively and believe that's the norm, ie payments for an overpriced car, spending excessively on hobbies etc

  • Not necessarily. The war became a turning point for many of our established views today.

At the time anti-semitic views were common in the US, and Hitler didn't expect the UK to stand against him.

If the UK had stayed neutral, Germany might well have succeeded and anti-semitism may well have become normalised in western views.

  • Do websites come under the remit of self hosting?

Personally I host static websites with GitHub, cloudfront, netlify, onrender etc. Trivial to setup, more reliable and better cdn distribution. Anything dynamic lives in a data center rather than a self host setup.

  • Fair, but you were asking how people approach security for self hosted solutions and I guess I'm challenging why anything needs to be public. Self hosting is typically for your own services which can usually be hidden behind a VPN.

The exception I guess is email, but I never understand why people attempt self hosted mail servers

  • Religious Studies should be abolished and replaced with Cultural Studies that looks at a wide variety of different cultures to provide a rounded look at the world without digging deep into any one particular religion.

In my middle school RS lessons and homework was always rewriting bible stories. The school had no religious affiliation so I have no idea how that teacher got away with focusing solely on christianity.

My senior school wasn't specifically religious but it had was linked to and made us of a christian building. And RS was taught by a reverend but it was a lot more balanced covering Islam and Hinduism too. Regardless I was very happy they weren't ridiculous enough to force RS as a GCSE subject.
