  • Venezuela, Uruguay agree to renew consular services - Latin American Reports

Good on President Orsi for re-establishing relations with Venezuela, the article does not mention it, but Uruguay no longer recognizes Edmundo Gonzalez as President of Venezuela (Juan Guaido 2). I guess Uruguay only recognizes the Status Quo (meaning they de facto recognize Maduro as President but not de jure, so as not to anger USA and EU. Mexico, Colombia and Brazil also did the same thing).

  • Dnepropetrovsk. They report that they have attacked one of the factories, as well as the railways through which the Ukrainian Armed Forces group is supplied

    • Telegram
  • : "Both Iran and Israel violated the ceasefire. I didn't like that Israel attacked aggressively after the ceasefire was declared."

  • Pink Tide goverments aren't usually communists, they are what they themselfs call Progressive Ideology, which is an alliance of anti-neoliberal/social-conservative/far-right groups and parties, and inside that coalition theres usually liberals and even some nationalists and conservatives.

The problem is when the socdems become dependent on support from these people (Brazil, Chile and Colombia). At least in Venezuela the reverse happened and the Socialists won the power stuggle with the pro-goverment Liberals and Conservatives remaining in goverment but with limited power and influence.

  • Bukina Faso? I guess it was more a military coup, but the junta seems left-leaning/progressive.

  • The 1990s were a really bad decade for communists and leftists, I guess a big W was Chavez being elected in 1998 (first as a social-democrat-esque president, he became more openly radical after the 2002 and 2004 coups). That led to Cuba gaining some support, and the start of the first pink wave (1998 - 2016).

Even Paraguay, the most right-wing country in Latin America, elected a Christian Socialist as their president, who was removed from power in a legislative coup that the USA and Taiwan supported. And I guess the Zelaya family in Honduras turning from Conservative/Neoliberal to Democratic Socialist was a big deal, so much that the USA/Hillary Clinton did everything possible to remove Manuel Zelaya from power in 2009, his wife did win the 2021 presidential election.

I think Chavez basically ressurected Socialism for the 2000s, at least in Latin America. While most Socialism in the 21th Century parties are rarely openly communists, most are just liberal or socdem parties, they usually do have good international politics and tend to at least invest money on social programs instead of just telling the working class to stop being "lazy".

  • US airbase at Al-Udeid in Qatar is hit by Iranian missiles. US military bases in Iraq, Bahrain and Kuwait go on high alert. US leader Trump is taken to the Situation Room in Washington. Iraq, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates close their airspace

Government of Qatar: "The attack on the Al Udeid airbase is a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and its airspace. Qatar reserves the right to respond directly, in a manner proportionate to the nature and gravity of the attack, and in accordance with international law."

Government of Iran: "Our operations are free of any threat to brother Qatar and his people. The attack is a response in accordance with international law and the right to self-defense. Our message to the White House and its allies is clear: Iran will not let any attack go unanswered."

Iran's Defense Minister: “We are determined to punish the aggressor, we reject peace imposed by force and we consider Washington a source of crisis and instability in the region.”

  • Iran's Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, officially announces that Iran is seeking to pass a bill suspending all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

  • "This is an absolutely unprovoked aggression against Iran. [Russia was] striving to provide assistance to the Iranian people," Putin said when meeting with Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister. Russia said that the irresponsible US decision violated the UN Charter.

According to Reuters, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wrote a letter to Putin in his own handwriting, asking for Russia's support against the US. Despite this, Putin is still reluctant and still prefers the path of the UN and dialog.

  • The US is probably going to keep bombing/attempting to bomb Iran until the population turns against the Goverment (they won't, even the liberals that hate the goverment are angry at the USA). I guess the US is also going to fund some Khuzestan and MEK terrorist groups.
